Wade: not supported is different to will not work at all

Indeed. "Unsupported" = Tech support department won't help you. This has no bearing whatsoever on whether it'll actually work or not.

I found out because I tried to install Windows 8 Enterprise tonight. After churning around for about 30 minutes it came back that the software couldn't be installed and it was uninstalling itself. Then it said to contact the manufacturer, which is what I did.

So Windows 8 itself rejects the laptop.

Instead of Enterprise, just install Pro. My old clunker HP dv2000 from 2007 is running it fine.

According to a post on Dells website its the Bios and the power management thats the problem

The drivers are not the problem with the n5010 and windows 8 x64, it is the bios and the power management. Does not always come back from sleep and needs a hard reboot. I had troubles with hibernation as well with the laptop turning itself on.

So if you turn off all the power management crap in the BIOS it should theoretically install fine just don't think about using sleep or hibernate

which BIOS version do you have the latest is A15

Dell Inspiron N5010 System BIOS Release Date: 7/24/2011
Importance: Recommended
Version: A15
