Interesting, I actually like aero glass - each to there own and as pointed out, there was the option to turn it off. One thing I would be interested in with Win-8, is how many people just pin their important apps to the task bar and just work on the desktop.

Ah. Having not gone looking for those settings I hadn't noticed they'd gone. I guess I'm just lucky then that my personal taste in aesthetics lines up with what Microsoft decided we'd all have. Although at some point I will probably try to swap out Segoe UI for Helvetica or Ubuntu (the font).

TwoSeven: I thought the windows 8 animation video summed it up nicely. After using it in beta, the release version lasted all of a week for me until I realised that I couldn't do a full backup (I am used to the windows 7 backup application). It also didn't help that my DVD drive didn't work after installing windows 8 and required an update. I also got annoyed that the WinRT apps had different version than the Win32 apps and the two didn't seem to want to talk to each other in many cases, so I ended up with duplicate applications. I am not a Fan of the metro/tiled UIs as they require too much thinking (I like to focus on getting the task done, not trying to figure out which animated window will launch my application) - I was pretty happy with icons, they didn't move, they stayed in the same location and they didn't change colour and look completely different every 5 minutes. I think I will stick with Windows 7 on the desktop for now. The backup feature is still there in Windows 8. Its called Windows 7 File Recovery or something. You can find it by typing in the start screen under settings i think. It lets you do the same stuff like creating images and choosing what and where you want to backup

Why take the name of a product that EVERYONE understands and rename it to something like Windows File Recovery!

has anyone tried the file recovery. Not sure what I did wrong. Using file recovery I did a full image backup. Message came up saying successfully completed. Then to test it I tried full image recovery. It only gave option for windows 7. It just would not find the image I made. I tried different external drives and even though it recognized the hard drive it wouldnt let me select the image. HTPC AMD A4-5300 cpu, Gigabyte ga2fa75m-d3h motherboard, , 4GB DDR3 ram, onboard graphics. Hauppuage HVR 3300 tuner, Antec 2480B case, Windows 7 home premium 64 bit using media center

Windows 7 File recovery will do a system image but the main backup client in Windows 8 is called File History (start typing File History on the Start page, highlight Settings and it will pop up as a choice). This will backup to an internal disk, an external disk, another PC on the local network and (I think) the cloud. It is supposed to work across Windows versions. As, if I recall correctly, as for earlier Windows versions, it is not intended to be a complete backup solution.

Calm down folks. There's nothing wrong with his opinion. It's actually quite true anyway. Some changes are a pain and don't fell like they have been well thought out. In case it is of interest to those less easy to anger when it comes to Windows 8 and who are giving it a go, File History is an entirely new backup client. Hence, I assume, it was considered to warrant a new name. As Klipspringer has said if one types Backup on the Start page, that also brings up File History under Settings (as does typing File History). Networkn if you are not getting it in the released version of the OS then you are likely not looking under Settings under the places to search. It is so long since I have used the backup client in Windows 7 I stand to be corrected (and, also, I don't use the Windows clients), but I think the Windows 7 File Recovery in 8 is the same or similar. EDIT: Whoops Bigreddog, I see you have pointed out the Settings thing, didn't mean to repeat what you have already said and displayed.
