The Windows Surface RT tablet is to be available from retail stores in Australia soon (Harvey Norman and JB HiFi), then later in the US where it is still available on Microsoft online or Microsoft stores.

I guess it will be a matter of time before it shows up in retail here in New Zealand through these same stores, seeing so far there's no much luck getting them online through Microsoft.

I hope so, I think they are quite a good product.

Maybe HN or JB should Parallel import them, that might wake MS up.

They are already being parallel imported (Geekzone Price Windows Surface RT) but I hear there's a problem for Microsoft selling these directly online here.

I hope retail gets them quick. Pretty sure the Surface Pro will be in stores anyway.

As you point out there are other retailers already selling in NZ. I was in PB Tech Auckland the other day and they had a pile of them

Pbtech is selling them for $899+gst which seems a bit expensive. Don't really want to spring a thousand dollars if Microsoft's release is just around the corner.
Do you think its likely that Microsoft will follow the same route as Apple in NZ and inflate the price? What I mean is whether it is likely you will be able to import from America for significantly cheaper than the local retail store?

David.

you should be able to make an educated guess about that pricing from looking at the price difference between US and AU prices, and remember the US ones normally don't include sales tax

Also remember US gets 1 year warranty, AU gets 2 year warranty, if a NZ retailer sold a Surface it will be covered by Consumer Guarantees Act...

At JB's pricing the surface is fast heading into Win8 tablet territory and I am not sure why you would settle for RT over win8

I managed to pick up a Samsung XE500T in the Boxing day sales for $986, similar spec but with bigger screen, proper keyboard and full win8 OS
