My Asus Ultrabook ssd is not recognising my Lacie hard disk drive. Does anyone know why this is happening and how I can get the laptop to recognise the external drive?

Have you checked the drive working in other laptops since it stopped working on this ASUS?

Yes it was working on my colleague's laptop, I have read it is a Window 7 issue, the Lacie is a few years old. The Lacie website doesn't have any useful drivers to download.

I found these instructions on updating the controllers, however my computer has a AHCI controller, not a  OHCI host controller:

Is your drive Firewire or USB?

Hmmm? How can one be a Firewire in one side and USB on the other? Those are two different types and I don't remember the ASUS ultrabook having a firewire port.

LOL
All I mean is there is a USB at my laptop's end but the port on the external hard drive is a firewire (square plug and deeper).

Sure, but if the drive is Firewire and the laptop has no Firewire port how do you get it to work?

Those LaCie have Firewire and USB ports, don't they? Or is this drive Firewire only?

The LaCie rugged only has a firewire port. It comes with a cable that is firewire at one end and USB at the other.

I have had confirmation that it is a USB, as a USB runs in to my laptop.
Does anyone have any idea what the problem and solution could be?
