Hi folks,

We're in the middle of a mini spending spree at the moment, having just bought a printer and hardware to make up another server/workstation. The plan is to run Windows Server 2008 on that new machine and hook up the printer (Canon IP4500) to it.

It seems the paperwork that comes with most printers have no mention of Win2K8 at all. Their websites (at least Canon's for sure) rarely mention Win2K8 in their driver/software download sections.

My question is: what driver do I use for these printers on a Win2K8 machine? Can Vista drivers and software run happily on Win2K8?

Cheers,
Dany.

Canon have a 0800 number for helpdesk and customer services in NZ why not give them a ring and ask?

Most likely the Vista driver will work fine on 2008, even the XP or 2003 driver would but if you ring chances are they might have a beta 2008 driver or something.

Thanks but I've been there and done that - their answer rivals the vaguest of politicians' answers. The cannot give me a straight answer whether the printer will actually work on that OS. If I keep ringing I may end up with a more adventurous support person who has actually tried the drivers on Win2K8 but I don't fancy my chances.

Ah well, I guess I just build it and see if it works!

If these are signed Windows Vista drivers you should have no problems.
