Now that the new 512MB Raspberry Pi is out, and they have been back in stock with suppliers and readily available, I know a few people around here must have picked one up recently like I have. I'm keen to see what uses people are putting their Pi's to. They are an incredibly cool and powerful device for their size and price point.

After a bit of a false start, I finally got mine properly up and running with Raspbmc last night, which is a distribution of XBMC for the Pi. I use Plex Server for my media, and the PleXBMC plugin allows me to access my content over the LAN to the server. The coolest feature though has to be the CEC functionality that works out of the box with my Samsung TV. It allows me to use the Samsung TV remote to control the media centre, including scrolling around the menus etc. Very handy to have the one remote.

I also plan to have a play with running Asterisk on it this weekend, like sbiddle posted about as this sounds very cool.

At the moment, I am running mine without a case. It's currently suspended behind my wall mounted LED TV by the cables plugged into it. I have ordered the standard black case from Element14 but it's on back order.

So.....what have you done with your Pi? Or what are you planning to use one for?

Running Raspbmc (XBMC) on mine as well. For some reason, some videos black out for couple of seconds and then resume but other than that I find it great.

Cases are overrated. The Pi looks way better running with no case. It will also help with cooling!

Airplay for zone 2 on my receiver. Outdoor speakers + zone 2 + iPad = more beers on the patio :)

After seeing sbiddle's blog I have moved XBMC on to the newer 512MB Pi and have put Asterisk on the 256MB one. Haven't done too much testing to see what it can handle. Have had 4 simultaneous external calls going but haven't tried other things like conferencing, IVRs, queues etc.
One thing I am apprehensive about is the asterisk logs. I haven' installed the module as I am not sure what it will do to the SD card in terms of space. Could only find a 4GB SD card too but think I might get a 16GB one just so there is room for recordings and the like.

Have taken the case off the Asterisk Pi as it was getting fairly hot. I am going to thermo-form a new case that will have room for a fan inside it. Am just going to use the mod-my-pi case as a mould and build up the top half to make room for the fan.
Thinking about it, I assume I can grab some power off the GPIO's? Otherwise will just get agricultural off the usb's.

Forgot to mention that I got a Gertboard too and assembled it on the weekend. Will have a play with this in the future too. http://www.raspberrypi.org/archives/1734

Would a raspberry pi be capable of running a Shoutcast server? I'm sure it's powerful enough... Just unsure of the compat of the shoutcast software itself. Thinking one of these could well work for serving my radio station streams... And in the long run use much less power!

Quick question - where's the best place to buy one of these at the moment?
