Bought an xbox from someone on trademe a few years back. Paid into his account. No xbox, emailed and got some excuse reply but still no xbox I knew his city from his trademe profile so looked up everyone with that surname in the phonebook. Rang the first number - no such person. Rang the second number - guy answered and I asked for the person. He sounded wary, said hold on and next thing I know some kid answers. Kid says his account was hijacked by someone and he has nothing to do with it. I saw previous feedback that he sold (and received positive feedback) some warhammer gear and this happened after I bought my xbox (and also other warhammer feedback before my purchase). Asked him if he played warhammer and he said yes - told him well it's either him or someone he knows that is using his account. Anyway, emailed him my account details etc.... for refund. Still no reply. Phoned back, got answerphone - left a firm but strongly worded message on there. Money turned up the next day - suspect dad cleared the answerphone and sorted it out :-)

I once brought an eMac off trademe for $1, they insisted they didn't want my money but when I went and got it, left the dollar infront of the door and a thank you note. Got home and booted it up, they left me the login to their account. Connected to my internet connection and BAM, all their emails start rolling in and I'm just like, um okay, closed that, and on the desktop was someones thesis,quite a lot of pictures of children who were obviously family because they were with the person I collected it from, nothing dodgy but still they could have easily gone into the wrong hands, and then a picture of the ladies husband in his underwear xD. Nearly died from laughter, my mate was with me at the time. Did the right thing and formatted the computer though without snooping through emails and anything past the desktop. Kind of wish I did now but I'd feel guilty. Made for an enjoyable Sunday afternoon none the less. And once I sold a phone on trademe for $70, they gave me a $100 note, but I had no change and they just said "keep it man, dont worry about it". Lovely person. Athlonite: I recently bought a second hand modem/router on trademe for $10 + pnp I payed the $10+pnp the modem arrived all good I thought then got a redface negative feed back because his bank charged him $3 for the transaction he even emailed me to ask for the extra $3 I told Him tough snot not my fault your ASB bank charges you for transactions should added in the cost of that to the original auction price I don't get it. Why would the bank charge him for a deposit made online?

Jaxson: The online calculator has been spot on for me, unless the weight of wrapping takes you over or something it should be exactly the same. I lost $10 on shipping an item recently. I find that sometimes the calculator gets recommendations wrong for "boxy"/3D items. I've had issues though where post shops don't stock the same bags etc. I used to live in Feilding and work in Palmerston North, and each post shop had different items. I got caught a few times quoting bubble wrap envelope etc only to find the damn post shop didn't have that size etc. Yes!!! I got caught with that a couple of weeks back for the first time. The post shop next to the church didn't have pre-paid bubblewrap packaging, but I would swear it has had it in the past. Thankfully there is another shop on the other side of the square, but the inconvenience was a bit of a pain.

"You are" = "You're" - Not "Your". "They are" = "They're" - Not "Their" or "There". You probably mean "lose" not "loose". There's no such word as "Alot". On the internet, wasting time, since '89.

A lot of people don't realise that there are bank accounts out there where manual deposits into them are charged for. People with those types of accounts should make it known in the auction or they just have to suck it up when a manual transaction happens.

I think where people get caught is where they measure it to the exact millimeter and then the packaging or item shifts and they end up getting caught out - or the scales used to weigh are not accurate. I always add 20gm or more weight "just in case" I end up using more packing material, and I add a few mm if not using a standard pre-paid bag. From what I have seen locally, it seems that Post Shops don't always carry large amounts of stock of pre-paid bags, etc and I know there have been some issues with them getting new stock occasionally.

Another hell buyer I had a year or so back, listing says internet transfer and cash as the available methods (I remove bank deposit as that makes people think they can go to a bank and deposit - trademe stuck in the past with that) Anyway, email goes out with the account number to transfer into or pay cash to me in person on pickup. Guy from whoppsville is the winner so wants freight, then emails me the next day to complain that he went 30km to the nearest ASB to deposit money and was turned away and he didnt want to use the fast deposit bag since he wouldnt get a reciept. Got a red, returned the red with another as you do (saying that the guy couldnt read) and then a while later they both just disappeared off our feedbacks. Richard rich.ms

freitasm: The whole system is crap. You can't post an actual negative feedback because you risk getting a false negative back... Agreed. I've still got a 100% feedback score but I've just started recently being much more honest, rather than no feedback etc.. I've give negative for any run around regardless. Figure my account is positive enough with enough trades now it wont matter if I get the odd negative. Most recent one was buyer was picking up on a particular date/time, didn't show, didn't reply to any emails henceforth... so negative feedback placed especially when I looked through and he had a habit of doing similar to other sellers. Previously I would have been worried about being given negative feedback in return.

I've also had a couple trades where the person has paid but never sent a shipping address. I've emailed and emailed and seems like they've just forgotten. I wait a couple months then relist.
