Not sure what kind of IT operation the IRD are running, but the online services facility has been unavailable and supposedly to be restored "shortly" all afternoon.

I would have expected any major sort of outfit like this to have a reasonable level of uptime for services like this.

What would you expect?

Working fine here. Have you tried refreshing the page while holding CTRL down?

Apart from that, I have a lot of respect for govt IT teams. They do get a lot of flack, and get paid a lot lower than private sectors. Everyone who has previously worked in a service level role, knows things can, and do go wrong.

Yeah it's working now - didn't have to hold ctrl down. I know things go wrong in IT, it seems that "will be restored shortly" should not mean hours of outage. If it is a major outage then just say so.

Often major outages aren't 'major'. You think it's simple and it will all be fixed shortly. But then something else goes wrong, and then another thing and the backup plan for your backup plan doesn't work, and by the time you've got it all sorted out, it turns out it was a major outage after all.

Not helpful on a day like today.  Still down for me at this time.

It was out this morning too.

It is not that uncommon for the IRD website to fail.   It is usually on peak days too --- today, provisional and gst is due.

I always file early now, because the IRD website is too unreliable.

Yes - why I did them late last week!!  Sorry if the headline/title was confusing - rather than create a new thread, I just hooked into one from a month ago - so earlier comments relate to that April 8 outage.

I usually try and bust through my procrastination block a few days early because of this, the last filing day always results in a fraught experience :)

Finally did my GST last Friday.

While I had some familiarity with the online systems at IRD and was therefore surprised at the outage, this time it had a benefit for me. I had forgotten to put a reminder in my calendar that my GST return was due yesterday and reading the article that noted that most people had returns due that day reminded me to check my own. Sure enough I did have a return due(!) and was able to complete it last night.

Whew!

My accountant filed a couple of weeks ago, and I paid the bill last week. Leaving things till the last minute is rarely a good plan.
