Started new job in Feb 2012 as Systems Administrator - this involves more sitting that I have ever done before (even though I have been working the office lifestyle for 5 years now). As a result my back got sore and I decided to look at my old bed and that is when I discovered that the springs had gone into the base of the bed.

Went out and brought a new double bed that weekend - first one I came across that they had stock of for delivery Monday. (Queen bed too big for room, didn't want to go back to a single)

However, aches and pains still there (mostly in the upper legs and groin) -- I changed entire office environment which provided some relief, have seen doctor/physio and osteopath but with only moderate success.

Now looking back at the bed wondering if I need a harder bed to keep things in alignment.

You want hard, go futon.

I had one for ages and loved it.

I have a design mobel bed which I love, and know plenty of others who do also.

Design Mobel? Geez, I need a pay raise.

Sounds like you might need to get an OT onto the case.

"You are" = "You're" - Not "Your".  "They are" = "They're" - Not "Their" or "There".  You probably mean "lose" not "loose".  There's no such word as "Alot".

Memory foam beds are awesome, I've had mine for a few years and I want to upgrade to a better brand some time. I got one off the net that's ok, but it was too hard, but an extra memory foam topper layer made it great.

Go and see an osteopath, preferably a structural osteopath. They specialise in muscles and connective tissues, and will help work out what's wrong and help you correct it.

I don't think it is uncommon to get early arthritic 'twinges' in your 30's.

Sadly it is all downhill from the 20's.

I have a day job sitting which literally causes me to have bad posture (anterior tilt). What matters is for me to be active lifestyle outside work (assuming you are not sleeping on a fold up bed)

My previous role as the 'IT Guy' had me running all over the show fixing things because the systems I was dealing with were not designed for managing everything at the desk (and it was easier to walk and fix). New role has me sitting 8 hours a day with very little face to face interaction (even with people next door).

So while I fully understand the need to 'get out there an exercise' my thoughts are that I did compensate for the lack of movement by adding in 90 minutes of extra walking a day. It is either not enough OR not the right compensation OR not the cause of the issues.

Changed everything at work I can (new chair made a world of difference in the last week), so now targeting things in the home. Since the bed was changed, it is my first target as the new bed I purchase was softer than the one it replaced.

Softer bed = less support?

/confused!

I used to be a physiotherapist (now non-practising) and from a professional perspective I would suggest most different professionals are much of a muchness, with the exception of those who believe you need to come back forever.

I have stiffness on occasion in my lower back, and find a combination of regular exercise that stresses the core (abs and lower back) - cross country running and sports with a ball tend to be good, along with regular posture changes keeps me pretty well.

I have recently started using a standing desk at work, along with a convential seat for some things, I have to do a lot of reading, has helped a lot.

Hi if you are having specific problems you need to talk to a bed specialist
I have spent the last 17 years selling beds in my own store in Dunedin

Hopefully not breaking any rules here and would give you the same advice if you were anywhere in the country
Bedpost is the only independant Bedding retailer that stocks competing brands in NZ
The first available or this months special may not be what you require, but a little time and some honesty should lead you to the correct bed for you. Its amazing how many people dont say they have back problems till later.

Worth a trial is removing any electric blanket or wool underlay as these cause a lot of problems as they do not stretch or contour to your body, so give a very differant feel to the bed in the shop.

We are a stockist of Design Mobel but they are in the process of closing there frame and furniture factory and are now on runout and there is not a lot left.

Would like to give more written advice but have a meeting to goto.
Mods delete anything that has breached any rules and accept my apologies

Like I said, an osteopath has made a world of difference to me. Physiotherapy (no offense to the poster above) never did anything useful for me.
