Was reading another thread here on Geekzone about Sky subscriptions which lead to another topic with a posters comment about his experience with Dominion Post. I didn't want to hijack that thread. Quote from that thread: allan: mattwnz: ..... I'm sorry, but that is health and safety gone mad I too received the following from NZ Herald when I contacted them to provide feedback on one of their delivery personnel who delivers a paper to our neighbour. They wrote "To confirm, letter boxes should be on the street seeing our policy is a free delivery and it is to the letter box on the street. This policy does avoid delivery staff driving down a driveway or ROW to deliver, because they are not permitted to leave their vehicles." I'd love to know exactly how many letterboxes are conveniently placed so as that the NZ Herald and Dominion Post delivery staff don't have to exit their vehicles.

Such stupidity don't seem to stop NZ post, So I suspect this is not an actual OSH restriction, just that they have contracted a bunch of lazy a$$ed paper delivery people who only drive round in cars......

And to think that I used to ride up and down driveways to letterboxes well oof the street for a couple of years delivering papers in high school. I cannot seriously understand this being a health and safety thing. I would imagine the health of any driver forced to get out of his/her vehicle every few houses would be improved in the log run. Not to mention hoping off my bike and running up a steep driveway to leave a paper for the elderly lady who couldn't get down her driveway to the letterbox! (Supplementary income in the form of biscuits, cake and soft drinks)

NZ post letterbox specifications. If you don't meet them, you can't really complain. I don't think they have to deliver to letterboxes set up wrong. I don't own the land in front of my house, so I didn't want to put a letterbox there then get told later I had to move it. To get to my neighbours letterbox you walk down the semi-steep driveway, down the path, into the entrance way to the property, it's on the side there. Must be a pain in the butt for a postie. So, in suburbs where houses are separated from the street by a footpath, do they have one of those telescopic robot-arms to reach the letterbox from their car? Sounds like cop-out BS to me. "You are" = "You're" - Not "Your". "They are" = "They're" - Not "Their" or "There". You probably mean "lose" not "loose". There's no such word as "Alot". On the internet, wasting time, since '89.

Is the Herald so slim it fits into a letterbox? My christchurch Press is plastic wrapped and gets biffed up the driveway. This works fine fo rme ex cept on a rainy day and it ends up in a puddle.

This works fine fo rme ex cept on a rainy day and it ends up in a puddle. My Herald used to be delivered like that. No longer a subscriber. Maybe it depends on the delivery area. Good shrinkwrap would solve the rain and the must be delivered to a letter box problem at the same time.

I wonder if courier drivers are exempt ... Since this is off topic ... How do courier drivers not pick up fines for parking in random places? If they get fined i really pity them Apologies for poor typing standards when on Samsung Galaxy S4

Courier drivers get parking fines all the time. They get a little bit of leniency, but not much, it'd be unusual for them go get through a week without at least a couple of parking tickets. i think there is a law to allow them, thats why when they have a temp van when their normal one isn't working they put a "courier" sign in their windows to stop the fines. i could be 100% wrong thou!!

I'm currently getting one of those 8 week free trial subscriptions to the NZ Herald and I find the paper each day neatly located in the top part of the letterbox. Now our letterbox is a good 3-4 metres from the footpath since there's a large council verge. So, how do they get the paper from their vehicle to my letterbox without getting out? There's no evidence of tyre marks on the grass. Obviously, it's telescopic robot-arms!
