sidefx: A while back someone linked a website in the US that allowed you to purchase a "virtual" US based credit card for just that sort of thing. Anybody have a link and used that sort of thing?

There is a local debit card that works very well. I use it for my Hulu, Vudu and Netflix subscriptions. Search the forums.

You can use your NZ credit card with a NZ address to buy Kindle books but you will be geo-locked. If you try to buy books available for US customers only you won't be able too.

If you use an Amazon account with a US address and start accessing it from NZ IP addresses the account may be locked after a while.

So.. If my account currently is NZ-based and I start using it to ship to my YouShop address... would it fall into the situation you mentioned above?

I think (hope) that would only happen if you're doing it while buying regional priced\geo-locked products.

No, it won't be a problem. Its only when buying digital goods - movies, ebooks.

lokhor: Could I use this service to buy a new video card through NewEgg?

NewEgg is quite vehement about blocking freight forwarding services, so expect that they will block YouShop very quickly.  You might get one or two items, but that's it.

You can use Visa debit where they don't accept NZ CC (I have used ASB visa debit) to buy digital goods on Amazon couple of times successfully. Also Air NZ's Onesmart credit/debit card works with almost all US retailers.

That is a little depressing. How are we supposed to get stuff at competitive prices then?

When it comes to video cards too i like to browse Newegg and I find it hard to compare to what I would be saving at times as a lot of the cards don't match the NZ descriptions so for me I can't be bothered a lot of the time to try going through all the specs for clock speeds etc it's a hit and miss thing.

I would love to be able to buy from Newegg using something like youshop but if they're likely to block them quickly that would suck as I've spent more than my budgets worth lately on Tech products (for at least a few months anyway Xmas bonus time I'm in lol). Sadly to upgrade my gfx card I will definitely need a new psu as oddly my new i7 machine with a 2gb gfx geforce card only has a 300 watt psu. Probably buy the psu locally and the card overseas.

freitasm: Good news! Heard from NZ Post on this battery stuff:

We are looking at resolving the lithium ion battery issue. Indeed, it does preclude people from purchasing some pretty sought after items. We are confident of resolving this and we will get back to you as soon as we have a solution.

And ink jet carts??

Just bought a router from Amazon, sending via youshop. Will be interesting to see how long it takes to go from USA to NZ once all is processed

I wish I had an answer.  The problem is that the answer according to companies like Ingram Micro is "you don't".

For now, just buy what you want from them.  May as well get in before they notice right?

So Prezoom seems *a lot* cheaper? Am I missing something? And is Prezoom the cheapest?
