gished: Is it the date they finally get rid of their TV voiceover guy and drop their advert volume back to something below 130dB?

Laughing I agree, the voiceover guy is too loud. Maybe that is the day they retire him.

Seriously though, it's linked under promos, so maybe their "biggest" ever sale?

Apprently they will be 'leveling out' advertising volumes to match TV shows, at least TVNZ is, as it was discussed on Fair Go. Currently the advertisers are able to take advantage of this by maxing out the volume, hence the way they shout at you.

ROFL!! I bet it's nowhere near as special as Briscoe's biggest ever sales.

Respect. That Briscoes lady is a tough woman to beat when it comes to bargains.

Don't be ridiculous.  She has always, and will always, be known as only "The Briscoes Lady".

I have noticed that the HN ads have got quieter. The Noel Leeming and Bond and Bond ads shout at me now. The other day, I was listening to the TV, not watching, heard what I though was a good deal being shouted at me and went to HN to look and it wasn't there. Turns out NL was shouting at me.

Yeah I want to know what it is all about now. Hopefully they do have some massive discounts.

Their mark-up is so high that even after a discount it's still expensive (this is their PC / gaming department).

I bought a digital SLR from HN for $500 less than you could buy anywhere else (at the time, excluding parallel importers) .

I've bought a keyboard from them which was about as cheap as the cheapest from pricespy.

And, I never pay their asking price. I automatically ask them for the cheapest offer.

In addition , the staff at my store are really nice. Once we lost an attachment on the vacuum cleaner and they just gave us the bit from their store model.

They price match too -- I found the cheapest supplier in NZ for a high-end receiver and HN price matched. It worked out better cos they are local .

I'll chuck in a good word for Harvey Norman.  A few years ago i brought a laptop, took it home and had a play, found out the screen resolution was not what i wanted and it was too bulky.  I had brought it on a 12 months interest free plan.  Took it back the next day and told them it wasn't what i thought and was after something else.  Within 10 mins i had a store credit.  1 month later i used that store credit to buy an iMac.
So a big plus from me that they took it back without a hassle and also giving me 12 months free store credit on an apple.
I do think the stories you hear about people getting screwed over with returns and failures are probably 30% how they approached the store and 70% getting the wrong person on the wrong day.

It does depend on the brand. For instance they don't give anything of Miele. But I tried to get HN to give me the best price for a TV, and they couldn't match NLs price. I expect at least 20% of the retail price these days.

Dropped into the local HN earlier today and the floor was littered with black ballons which were being blown up by gents in high viz yellow vests. Wonder if they are doing a 'Black Firday' sale to match the US?

I've never had any issues with the service at Harvey Norman and would happily go there for an item. They have been pretty good with deals and discounts when asked nicely. Through a union I'm entitled to a discount at NL/BB, I don't think I've ever managed to get more than a few dollars off the ticketed price so I've not bothered buying items from them.

Black friday isn't until the 30th of November though. It is close though, so possibly? I do find with HN, they do have some very good deals when they have boxing day sales, possibly loss leaders to get people through the doors.

The leveling out thing is compulsory now. Stations won't accept them otherwise. Even the Noels and Bonds TVC's comply to it. Weird that they stood out to you.

And my first thought was a Black Friday sort of sale also...
