So I have started listing a few things on Sella. Advantages include no commission and the sale period is long so less maintenance if you are not in a hurry to sell. Advantages for buyers include RSS feeds.

The number of page hits tends to be low in comparison - reserve must be set at a comfortable level in case someone walks away with it due to lack of bid competition. On the positive side the number of individual sellers in many categories is low. If someone is searching they will easily see your item.

I cannot understand why so many complain about monopoly of other auction sites but do not list anything on Sella or search anything on Sella before buying.

sella.co.nz - will you use it?

Have you used it already - what was your experience?

I think the question should be "would you use it"... Since sella is not a newcomer into the market, it's fair to say the "will" time is gone.

Stylistically - I prefer the imperative in this instance. Sella has been around for a while and has escaped consideration maybe because it is the wrong colour . ; ).

Every time a new auction player starts up their reasoning is always the same - "Kiwis are sick of paying high fees and are looking for a better deal"

The best rebuttal to this is Sella (and Zillion when it was around).

In my opinion Zillion was streets ahead of TradeMe in terms of functionality, but could just never get the eyeballs of buyers.

Until someone cracks that chicken and egg conundrum of buyers <> sellers (no-one will list if there are no buyers, and buyers won't visit unless there's lots of sellers), everyone else is doomed to fail.

Plain and simple.

As a seller, no because it's virtually devoid of worthwhile eyeballs.

As a buyer, no because it's virtually devoid of worthwhile sellers.

Sometimes if I like something on Trademe I'll search for it on Sella. Sometimes the seller will be selling the same thing on Sella for less. I assume because they don't have to cover the success fees Trademe charges.

Two for and two against so far.

I listed my first items on Sella a couple of weeks ago.

One sold almost instantly. It was a specialist book title in good condition which sells for a ridiculous price in NZ retail. I priced it at 2/3 of Amazon price. My guess is the buyer was googling the NZ webspace for the title and it came up as the second item in the search. Like TradeMe, Sella ranks high in google search.

The other two items get hardly any hits according to Sella's counters. The items are reasonably priced. On TradeMe they would get more clicks. I am in no hurry so I will continue to add more items on Sella slowly over time.

I found something on there with a google search once. Bought it, it turned up, worked fine. Not many listings though.

I too have noticed that items can be cheaper from Sella than Trade Me. Have bought of Sella because I like to support the underdog.

I've tried this in the past, but the items have always been the same price (from the same seller.)

They should be cheaper, as they aren't paying commission. That is probably the mistake sellers are making. If everyone was selling stuff cheaper on sella, I think it would be more successful, but really hardly anyone knows about sella.

My personal experience, I have used it to sell, and no success, and very few views compared to trademe, where it sold. I have looked at stuff to buy, and no cheaper than traedme, and less selection.

The count so far - two against, three for, one kind of neutral/maybe - Detruire . Additionally I will count timmmay on the positive side of neutral for the moment. Mattwnz has not yet expressed a view which can be characterised in this way; ).

Adding some information - I have contacted Sella once so far. By email. The response I got was prompt, engaging and very satisfying from a service point of view.

Can't say that I've ever used it.

What was the name of that recent startup that sank without a trace?

The count so far - three against, three for, + one kind of neutral/maybe + one on the positive side of neutral. Ok, so my fuzzy heuristic counting algorithm is fuzzy and heuristic lol..

It's actually looking good for Sella. Let's try and keep this on topic please.

I intend to use it more next year, I'm pretty tired of paying trademe. I acknowledge it's not as popular, but it certainly has other advantages, put me down for a yes please.
