Open fires on Auckland beaches are illegal, as per latest Auckland Council website information.

Depends when you're having it. In virtually all parts of NZ open fires are prohibited during the fire serason (ie Summer).

I believe it's illegal to have an open fire on the beach - particularly if some of the fuel is a boat belonging to a nearby resident.

Sounds like you would be able to take a brazier to the beach...

Outdoor cooking and heating

Outdoor fires for heating or cooking like:
hangis or
brazier fires
are allowed in the Auckland Rural Fire District, excluding Hauraki Gulf Islands if used in a safe and considerate manner, when basic prevention measures are adhered to. These must be in conditions where any smoke, ash or other discharge to air is not noxious and does not create a nuisance to neighbours.

Cheers,
Joseph

It does say that outdoor fires are allowed for cooking - so maybe try to sizzle a couple of sausages on it and claim it's a large cooking fire? :-)

Damnit, best LOL of 2013 so far for me! Well played sir!

Reminds me of this:

Rabidplaybunny87: Okay, so my neighbors officially hate me
GarbageStan23: why?
Rabidplaybunny87: Well, me, david and andrew were having a bonfire in the backyard, and we were making s'mores and all... and suddenly we here sirens, and see a firetruck turn into the street in front of us.
Rabidplaybunny87: So we all went running to see what was up, and our neigbor's house was on fire!
GarbageStan23: oh sht!
Rabidplaybunny87: Yeah, and when we got there, the wife was crying into her husbands arms, and we were just kinda standing there, and then she saw us, and then like for 10 seconds, gave us the dirtiest look ever
Rabidplaybunny87: Turns out, we were still holding our sticks with marshmallows on it, watching the fire....
Rabidplaybunny87: talk about bad timing...
