OK, my youngest son will be 10 and I have to think up something for a birthday with about five of his mates.

I can't do something at home so I am looking for suggestions in Auckland.

I took my boy and friends to laser strike at Mt Wellington. They do a birthday package with pizza and two games of laser strike plus a round of bumper cars.

Yup, the laser strike is a win. Failing that take them to an offleash dog park and tie a pork chop around their necks, at the end you will have tired kids and dogs for sure!

Edit: Is Laser Strike the new Laser Force (As it was called in my day...)

I had a guy once who worked for me, he was Chinese, and initially his English wasn't as good as it was after a while. Anyway, I have a dry and mean sense of humor and I found out he liked to go fishing. It was approaching Xmas so I said, look why don't we do a fishing trip as an Xmas event, and he seemed interested. Dead straight face I suggests he brings his 5 year old daughter, he looks puzzled and asks why. Deadpan, I said "Bait!". He didn't cotton on for a bit I was joking and was fairly upset, took him a few minutes to calm himself when I assured him his daughter was too big to use as bait.

Sorry to hijack the thread! Take them to laserzone, you'll have tired 10 year olds (always good) who have a wild time.

Please don't take them to paintball unless it's you guys exclusively. We played out there on an open day and kids under about 13-14 don't tend to have much fun, they get shot a LOT and it makes it not fun for them or the people they play with. Obviously there are some 10 year olds that cope, but none I've had any experience with.

Indoor climbing. The Mt Eden outfit is 100% set up for kids. The Mt Wellington one has almost the same amount of kids stuff and a lot of extra things but call that one first to discuss how many kids walls are operating.

For something with more variety Action World in Henderson is worth a look.

I'm Christchurch based but been through all that-gee what are we going to do for the birthday etc.

What about mountain biking over at Wood Hill. A bit hilly but easy tracks. Been there and great fun.

Don't know what the cost is but what about a ride out on the NZ America's cup boats from Viaduct basin.

The hot springs hydro slides up north of Orewa somewhere ? Can't remember quite where but took my two there about that age.My son made me do the cork screw!

If you drive between venues  when picking the kids up and delivering them home, get their favourite music and play it really loud in the car and cruise with the windows down. You'll most probally hate it but they will think it's great.

At that age Burger King or Mac's always seems to come into it as well somewhere.Have plenty of cans of softdrink and bags of snacks, chips etc lying around as well.

Good luck

Best suggestion I have is have a vehicle that they can all be together in - and

1) do a tour of all the flying foxes / ZipWires in Auckland.
Theres quite a few , and its a great boys activity - dont have to declare whats happening - make it a mystery tour... always great to have some challenges thrown in.. .
a) the rubber chicken / gumboot / raw egg throwing competition or
b) my fav the two person slingshot (using waterballoons) - with a distance or accuracuy competion..
lots of the flying foxes are in larger parks and unsurprisingly all are on a slope..
havent been able to source the slingshots locally - but have bought them from Amazon US (using and Australia ebay I think)
