Just to add - for the past three months the average time it takes for a letter to reach me from Auckland or Christchurch has been 10 days. Letters from across town have never arrived in less than a week. I think its all a plot to get us to drop snail mail completely ;)

The large package was just a large  calendar sized envelope, which couldn't fit into the slot of the mailbox, but could easily have fitted in the big box below where milk used to go, and it was shielded from the road on 3 sides. 

I have asked for the local postmaster to contact me, and he has left a couple of messages, but I wasn't available at the time . But they don't want  you to know their direct line phone number I noticed, because the number was withheld, and they wanted me to phone them back though their call centre, and to then be put through to their office.


My issues though were that it was getting sent to a postshop miles away from my local postshop, rather than being sent to my local one. They also refused to redirect it to my local postshop after I requested it. For other items that were signature required, they weren't bothering to actually get the signature. Instead they ticked noone was home, which was a untrue, as they didn't even come through the gate to check.

I think for parcels, they should be handing the goods to their couriers to deliver if their posties are incapable of delivering the items. They are paid to deliver the items, not for us to go and pick them up. Next time it happens I am going to get the sender to sort it out.

What can be done if NZ Post claims a parcel was delivered but you have not received it?

I had a parcel coming from the UK in December. I was chasing it up with NZ Post for two weeks before I went away on holiday & they kept insisting it hadn't arrived in the country (contrary to what Royal Mail said). I had a hold at the Post Office on mail for the period I was away but since NZ Post said that doesn't apply to parcels I also had neighbours checking the mail each day. When I got back there was mail in my mailbox, mail with the neighbours, and a couple of items held at the post office. No parcel. Now NZ Post say it was delivered but they don't know if it was left in the mailbox or dropped at the front door. Whichever way, it never got to me. Anyone know what recourse I have?


Was there a tracking number?
If so, you should be able to see who signed for it (if sig required). 

You would most likley to take this up with the sender. They can deal with the insurance claim.

IMO they should have done this ages ago, instead of the huge price hikes.

Stamp costs for a standard letter:
2004 - 45c
2007 - 50c
2010 - 60c
2012 - 70c

Reducing the delivery days will neither reduce prices, nor will it stop them increasing prices.

2004 - 45c
2007 - 50c
2010 - 60c
2012 - 70c


The whole Kiwi Stamp thing is a PR masterstroke, really silenced the hype around the stamp price rises. I'll admit that I didnt have a clue that it had gone up to 70cents

There was a tracking number. NZ Post claimed it was delivered, "somewhere in town" but had no record of where. It wasn't sig required. The sender is sending another one out.

Although it must also be costing them a lot, as many people purchsed them when they were 50 cents, and have a big stock pile of them, and NZ post have to honour them. I have a big box of them myself, because I figured that the price would never go down. But hardly send mail these days.

So I mustn't have bought stamps since 2006 then, I have a box of 100 stamps I'm almost through. I don't post many letters as it is, but at 70c each I'd post less.

I do not understand NZ Post's business model. In response to falling volumes it increases prices and cuts services, which can only do one thing - accelerate customers leaving. 

They are clearly are shutting down rather than trying to stimulate growth.

And then they will blame people for not using the services, for the reason for the cuts. The US seem to have some really good new systems for post, such as doing stuff online.
