Got one tonight D'Oh! I was coming down the hill on my street and he was sitting at the bottom facing up and snapped me. Question is, I thought they had to give tickets based on the traveling speed and that things like accelerating to over take etc aren't ticketed. Its too easy to get a few k's over when your down a fairly steep slope Anywho.. anyone wise enough on the law who knows whether I may be able to get out of it because of this fact? Flamer.

If your car has faulty brakes then you're lucky you didn't also get ticketed for that. Most people temper their speed downhill with the brakes

Are you asking a question with the question mark at the end or was that a statement where the ? makes no sence ? Your question/statement didn't make much sense but if you went over the speed limit (at any time) then you have commited an offense. You might want to read the road rules: Compulsory speed signs A speed limit is the maximum legal speed that you can travel on the road under good conditions.

Are you asking a question with the question mark at the end or was that a statement where the ? makes no sence ? Questions do usually have those squiggles at the end of them. Good on you for spotting it and pointing it out to anyone else who may not have. Flamer.

You should maybe re-read the initial question, because I agree - it doesn't make any sense if it was indeed intended as a question. I can't work out how on earth you'd even obtain a driver's license if you didn't know the most basic of rules around speed limits. There is absolutely no point on the road, heading downhill, overtaking, or otherwise, at which you can legally exceed the posted speed limit. It's too easy to go a few k's over....? Nice try, but you're out of luck. What annoys me more than people speeding/breaking other road rules is the people who try and get off the fines on a technicality. You screwed up. Deal with it.

Putting a ? at the end of statement for some reason I've found in the past is quite a common thing that some people do for some reason which I have no idea about. Maybe its because Kiwis we have a HRT which is normally used in questions not statements. (or maybe not) You said.." "yeah point taken, but did I go slower than the speed limit... " A question yes, but a strange question which doesn't make sense as you are asking if you went slower , something which no one knows except you. DId you mean .. "Yeah point taken, but I did go slower than the speed limit... " which is a statement so no ? needed at the end? Thanks

I bet everyone who has posted in this thread so far routinely travels at 55-60 in 50 zones when no one is looking. Bottom line if you get caught exceeding the speed limit and get a ticket take it like a man (or woman if you have girly bits).

So how far over the limit were you ? Bottom of hills seem to be a favourite place to increase their quotas if they are having a slow day. "In the end, it's not the years in your life that count. Nope, it was a fair cop as far as I can see, You have a responsibility to ensure that you stay within the posted limits, even going down a steep hill, it is called braking, I suspect it was more than "a few ks" as they usually wont ping you for fewer than 10% over the limit,

We always get caught out by cops at the end of a downhill slope. It's a bummer, but how else are they meant to get money from speeding tickets? :P (Oh, and post no. 200!) Blog Twitter Flickr RSS Feed
