jayaldous: Thanks Bung, that clarifies this really well. Behaviours really didn't match expectations based on the simplified one.

@Jon_C
I _do_ keep left, and I don't drive in the right lane simply for the fun of it. I was aware of that statement, but I guess over time that thought had been diminished by observing otherwise every day.

Good to hear, your comment saying "... the motorway was just for driving in any lane unless specifically signposted." gave me the wrong impression.

Oh man!

I was driving home from work sick yesterday afternoon in a built up area. I suddenly sneezed which caused me to involuntary speed up from 50 to 75, run straight through a stop sign, career through a school 40km zone, and through a red light at the other end.

A cop stopped me and did me for all three offenses. Was I unfairly ticketed?

I past some road works, which finished, then speed limit signs that were covered up. I should have driven 50kms, even thought I thought it was a 70 zone. That was a sucky ticket.

I suspect Stach may be giving a very unlikely hyothetical scenario here, just to illustrate the point.

It was either that or one hell of a sneeze!

Oh yeah. Sorry, that was sort of a random story.

Hahaha!

Boy you'd really have a pretty grunty motor to get you from 50 to 75 in the time it takes to sneeze! (observation, I realise its sarcasim :) )

Well back on the topic of speeding vs other potentially more dangerous driving practices, this is what I saw tonight on my way home from work (walking), all at the SAME intersection (corner of Victoria St/Beaumont St/College Hill, on the fringe of Auckland City):

- A student in a driving instructor's car run a red light closely tailgated by another driver
- Three cars blocking the intersection after the light turned red (coming from another direction). A police car (traffic patrol - in a blue & yellow marked car) was at another point of the intersection and her light went green. She proceeded to drive wide to get past the cars blocking the intesection...
- A guy towing a boat barrelling through the intersection at a fair speed. While talking on his mobile phone held to his ear with his "free" hand.

This is the same intersection that I have almost got run over twice by drivers who run red lights so they don't have to wait 3 minutes for the light to turn green again.

I hate it when people block the intersection! I remember being at the city end of the NW motorway once by the top of Nelson St. Cops were standing there writing tickets for anyone who stopped in the intersection because they were too stupid to wait and make sure there was room for them on the otherside.
Good stuff.

does that mean that at some stage you bought a *second* PT Cruiser? :o

i thought they looked pretty cool and different when they first came out, but i got bored with the styling pretty quickly and even started to dislike it :P

Yes, I got a second one. The wife still thinks the Inferno Red version was a better colour though. The second one is blue.
