GeoSmart is running competitions on our AA_Traffic Facebook Fan Page to make people aware of AA Traffic and also to get people to engage with us about everything to do with traffic incidents, accidents, road works, detours, what people do in cars and in short whatever people feel is relevant.

Our latest competition started 15 minutes ago and I thought some of you might be interested. The prize is a weather station. It provides a weather forecast, Indoor temperature and humidity measurement, It has an outdoor seperate unit (not waterproof) that communicates wirelessly with the... main unit, transmitting outdoor temperature. It has time, calendar and an alarm with snooze, displays in 7 languages and will even tell you the moon phase. I know you want this, I do!

To enter the comp which will close at 9AM on Wednesday morning 27th January, tell us your favourite New Zealand Sunday drive by commenting on our wall on the Facebook Fan Page.

I'd rather they improved the traffic feed first.

Specifically the accuracy of the information. I was the engineer at Navman that worked with Geosmart on the first implementation of RDS TMC (I've since got another job), and at the time they told me the operator watching the camera and entering the motorway speeds manually was temporary, and would soon be replaced with an automated system.

I commute from out west into Ponsonby every day at around 09:30. Quite often (two or three times a week) eastbound SH16 shows red or black (i.e. heavy traffic flow) but turns out to be free flowing. I want to use the traffic flows to decide whether to use the motorway or use an alternate route, but since the data seems to take ages to update from the morning rush I've started to ignore it. If this was an automated system I'd expect it to update within minutes so I'm guessing it's still done by the operator.

We rely on many sources for our data and continue to work closely with partners including Navman. Keep an eye out and you will see some dramatic enhancements in the very near future that will mean aspects such as flow will be very up to date:) Appreciate the feedback.
