I wasn't too sure what section to put this under so I thought i'd be off topic (correct me if i'm wrong please).

I've always thought it would be awesome if I could have my snapper card incorporated into the phone I have currently, today I was reading about the technology when I came across this website http://www.woebken.net/future_of_money.html (Scroll down a bit to the oyster meltdown video)

The site showed an oyster card being soaked in acetone then having the plastic layers of the smart card removed one at a time, looking at the diagram on the snapper website I concluded they both have the same layout so the same idea should work on a snapper, although I am yet to test the final result.

I went and purchased a blank snapper ($10), acetone, and found a glass jar and tweezers.  After soaking the snapper card in the acetone in a jar for around 10 minutes I was able to remove the colored layer of plastic on the card, I continued to do this until all I had left was one sheet of plastic where I could see the RFID chip and the aerial loop. I peeled the final layer off and was left with the aerial loop and connecting to the RFID chip.

It's currently taped inside the back of my phone waiting for a test run later, will be interesting to see if it works or not, I don't see why it wouldn't but some shop owners or bus drivers may be reluctant to accept it (I don't blame them)

Just thought others may be interested in this, I don't believe it is illegal but also don't think snapper would approve of it so this one is just for fun, I still have my normal undamaged one for frequent use.

Please correct me if you think any of my reasoning is wrong, I would be interested to hear other peoples views. Cheers

Why would it be illegal?

IMO I will be getting a shielded wallet when I get an RFID card and wouldnt want to put the transmitter in something like a phone that I cant reasonably shield from being read by stealth.

Not sure, just a afterthought that it may not be above board entirely.

Just got back from trying it in a kiosk reader, it didn't work. Wondering if I damaged it (more than likely). Or does the aerial need to be in the exact shape it is in on the card. I taped it in, in a rough loop shape. Interesting experiment none the less.
