sleemanj: I agree, like our anthem says, it's "Men of every creed and race"

Not "Men descended from people who came from the united kingdom... and a few others who are unimportant"

I assume you are joking, but Men in this context meant both at the time and now, humanity as a whole.  

That aside, I didn't really comment on the anthem, but on the flag, which has no sex-bias in it's representation of the people of this nation, but does have quite a heritage-bias.
