Any good deal on a notebook or netbook? Something under the $500 mark.

Great Scott!

Check JB Hi-Fi. Their homepage has some quite good deals.

numfarr: Not many good TV deals so far:
Samsung PS51D550 online at both DSE and Harvey Norman for $1288
LG 60PV250 Harvey Norman $1,777.00 in-store only

Whoa! I bought the PS51D550 in August for $1700! O_o

I am looking to buy a plasma on boxing day. Specs look good on this. Are you happy with your purchase?

I've always preferred Panasonic for plasmas, but this set has impressed me. After a quick calibration with AVS HD 709, it looks fantastic. Definitely recommend it.

Interesting you say that because the last 2 plasmas I have unboxed for relatives have had pictures no better really than my friends antique one with massive dither visible and much worse when the brightness has been tamed down. I skipped straight past them all on sat when getting a TV. Since the finance is pending I can either take it after calling baycorp on tuesday or else flag it if they do a better deal for boxing day sales ;)

I actually had an issue with the first PS51D550 I got from DSE. It had a black bar all the way across the screen. Took it back and they only had the floor model, so they gave me a discount on it and free extended warranty. Never had an issue with the Panny plasma I had before.

Thanks. Both Harvey Norman and JB Hi-Fi have laptops for $397 each. Harvey Norman is Compaq 1.65GHz dual core E450 AMD where as JB Hi-Fi is Asus 1GHz dual core C50 AMD. Might go with the Asus/JB Hi-Fi considering there will be a mad rush at Harvey Norman due to other crazy specials and they only have 1000 of those compaq's in stock nationwide :-)

Ok, I could actually see the dither in the store demo ones at absurdly bright levels in the shadow areas, and since those are the same brightness as normal tones once you turn the brightness down it would drive me insane, like the cheap 19" LCD panels on the work PCs with a constant shimmering fog over the image. Cheapest 55" samsung LCD looks fine to me. Will never use the 3d etc and dont really know how bad the backlight flicker will be on it till I try it since they didnt have the remote and its hard to tell in a store setting anyway.

Haven't noticed any dither at all (and I'm a bit pedantic). After the AVS calibration, it looks stunning, especially now that I had it wall-mounted. Can't complain about performance. Even its built-in network media player does the job fine (although I have an HTPC).

Picked up a laptop from Harvey Norman for $397. Was first in line luckily. While at it also bought modem warfare 3 for $60 for the Xbox.

I was at The Base shopping centre earlier on (Hamilton), big traffic queues prob stretching a good KM down Te Rapa Road and Avalon Drive, traffic controls were having to be used also. I think the entire population of Hamilton must of been there

One could say that.  They had security guys directing traffic into and out of  the car parks when we left at about 10.30am and the check out que at JBHIFI was about 15 minutes long..
