I was pretty surprised after reading this, interested to hear other thoughts.

One person's opinion doesn't make it valid or true.

Let's face it, we do the same here, writing bad things about Australia. Just recently herald.co.nz had an article bagging Aussie's weather, deadly creepies and what not. So nothing to see here.

It just gets so tiring. NEXT.

WOW! The guy doesn't obviously know much about his own country then!!!

When visiting Oz a few years I found many of the local inhabitants (the ones who'd always lived there, not shifted there in their life times) to be rude, wouldn't know how to form a line if their lives depended on it (and were constantly queue jumping!!!), and many of them very smelly - especially the greeks.

I think the writer has a certain amount of envy though as he keeps talking about moving parts of NZ to Oz or moving Australians to NZ!

OP: this sounds to my Aussie ear as what we like to call 'humour'. Don't take it personally.

Some of its quite funny, some is just junk and looks like he ran out of stuff to say. Actually I think for the most part its quite complimentary.

This looks to be deliberately inflammatory drivel. Both the writing style and flow of ideas suggest it was copied from the wall of a fly infested outback toilet.

I am unsure why Fairfax would have published this other than to simply incite massive flame wars in their comment section.

If the article included some facts regarding departure and arrival of New Zealand citizens as well as permanent emigration statistics I would consider a comment but as it does not I will simply ignore it.

I love the Aussie-Kiwi rivalry and the banter between the two nations, and I enjoy a chuckle when reading these types of opinion pieces, but this article was just drivel and a poor attempt at humour.

LOL - reminds me that I saw the Gruen Transfer the other night where they pitted a NZ and an Australia ad agency against one another to produce an ad about forgetting our difference between NZ and Australia. Both ads were brilliant!

Will post links if I can find them.

There was one a while back about Australia taking over New Zealand. Also 2 ad agencies. One was something like 'NZ: 100% Pure... 100% Ours'. And the other was 'Tell you what, let's invade New Zealand: it'll be over by lunchtime, and you can have Monday off afterwards.'

LOL, the story is on stuff.co.nz, with the biggest group of mongrel commenters in New Zealand, and there are still no comments on this story...

New Zealanders need to learn to how to laugh at themselves.
And don't take things so seriously.

I thought it was quite funny. The sooner we become another island in the Australia colony the better I reckon ;-)

I agree with the others

It's an attempt at humour, although not entirely funny.

He started off well, but towards the end just got too carried away

Sort of like a lot of stand up comedians, who start off with a bang and then just fade away

Op needs to lighten up :)
