How come I still get the FBI seizure notice with MAFIAAfire redirector? I'd have thought it would get directed to the correct IP, but of course fail to load.

tristanb: The whole thing is disgusting.

1. The guy's done nothing wrong in NZ.
2. Way over-the-top response by police - part of trying to make him look guilty.
3. Our newsmedia (friends of MPAA/RIAA/etc) are trying to make this guy look a baddie. "Rich prick", previous convictions, neighbour "intimidated by email" (did you actually read it?) I'm watching TV3 misquote it right now.
4. Our country is doing the bidding of the corporations of the USA
5. Being denied bail. Flight risk? How's HE going to get out! Here's a few people who should have been denied bail: Akshay Chand - let out on bail after kidnapping a girl, then when out murders her, great going bail judge you have her blood on your hands. The killer of Phillip Cottrell - beat an innocent stranger to death in NZ, get bail back at mum's. Not some guy who ran a successful business!
6. Megaupload was in talks with artists to allow direct download and payment for their songs - uhoh, that's depriving the RIAA of their god-given right to endless income - not good. They'll make him pay...
7. The RIAA can't buy politicians in NZ, so let's get some pressure on NZ from Obama. Pass that S92a under urgency, Christchurch earthquake - perfect excuse. "We might think about possibility of maybe talking about a possible free trade agreement. Now DO WHAT WE SAY! Labour and National both nod heads."

Final words:
Go away corporate America. Stay out of our laws. Stay out of our country. I hope to live to see the demise of the US recording conglomerates - but unfortunately, they write the laws in North America, Europe, UK, Australia and NZ. It's not how it should be.

I actually read the emails he sent and was laughing out loud.

Either his neighbors have serious mental health issues or they wanted 15 minutes of fame on the TV.

MikeyPI:?Runaway million got chased & extradited over Westpac's mistake.. As a criminologist pointed out, his part was neither theft, nor fraud.

It was at least fraud. There was no money deposited in his account - it was an overdraft. He then proceeded to get money on that overdraft with the intention of not returning it. He knew too well it was a mistake and a honest person would just have pointed it out to the bank.

?
..

Its wasn't at least anything at all. Something is either a criminal act or its not. It wasn't theft, or fraud, money laundering yes, but too bad.. Unethical / immoral whatever, but it's the same as the dimwits who rabbit on about copyright being theft.. Actually it's not..

There is no correct IP.

Agreed. It seems pretty poor how they have treated him, especially with his wife heavily pregnant. Violent criminals are let out on bail frequently. I don't really see why this guy hasn't been.

Considering the way he has been treated, this image seems approprate.

He should not be here in the first place given his previous convictions. He lied his way into this country, had previous convictions, thats crime enough.

tristanb: 2. Way over-the-top response by police - part of trying to make him look guilty.

His servers host things things from child porn to free Microsoft office products to the latest blockbuster Hollywood movies. Come on. Sure the police raid was a bit over the top but the police had no idea who they were up against. Ever seen a police raid of somebody’s house where they suspected of selling child porn or drugs? No different mate.

tristanb:  3. Our newsmedia (friends of MPAA/RIAA/etc) are trying to make this guy look a baddie. "Rich prick", previous convictions, neighbour "intimidated by email" (did you actually read it?) I'm watching TV3 misquote it right now.

The fact that he is rich is not the point. The fact that he is rich because of his illegal activities is. If there were no copyright laws, the guy would not have a business. The guy is a “prick”, maybe not a “Rich Prick”.

tristanb:  5. Being denied bail. Flight risk? How's HE going to get out! Keep the unsuccessful businessman in jail. He runs a successful business ???LOL. Successful business of distributing other businesses private copyright material LOL. Sure other people have received bail for bigger crimes. But the whole world is looking at this one, and as a country NZ needs to sort this guy out. This guy has access to money, its easy for him to leave the country, even if his funds are so called frozen.

If it was not for “corporate America” Dotcom would have no “successful” business.

I am really finding it strange that so many kiwis are standing up for this guy. Why? Come on. Its not rocket science to work out he has broken the laws both here in NZ and other laws in so many ways. Anybody who has ever used or logged into Megaupload would realise this. My first impressions of the site a while ago were, surely this can’t be legal.

Not sure where you got that idea from, it's been reported repeatedly he fully declared his convictions during his residency application. Labour etc are just pissed that he was allowed in even thou he declared them.

Containers travelling through Port of Auckland regularly contain drugs, and other illegal content. I'm sure the directors of PoA are aware that their facilities are used for illegal activities. Do you shut down the entire port and arrest the directors at gun point? No difference mate..

I think you'll find he was rich well before the Insider Trading case, or MegaUpload, and that the wealth was generated legitmately.

The USA has been pretty much reviled in NZ since WW2, and I doubt that's going to change much, plus of course NZ is in love with copying stuff. As for the laws he may or may not have broken, I personally (and apparently a great many others) think those laws are outdated, old fashioned, and have as much place in the 21st century as laws that forbid women from voting or make homosexuality a jailable offence.

Can’t say I agree with this way of thinking. If one of those containers are found to have drugs or other illegal content? What happens? Container gets seized. If the owner of the container is found, hell yes they arrest the directors of that drug smuggling company. At at gun point. No different.

Its a criminal offence to host a site with copyright information. Lets not try and justify why its legal.

Can’t say I agree. As stated previously. If there were no copyright laws, the guy would not have a profitable business.

If ports of Auckland housed a container on site that not only allowed people to put more drugs in and take drugs out, but also based their entire business model on renting out this container knowing full well what it would be used for, then absolutely they should be shut down and prosecuted.

But they dont, and he did

allegedly.....

Might as well go and arrest the owners of every self storage facility around the country as well then, since that is exactly what happens in those places.
