Hi there,

I am looking at going into the city sometime in the next week or two (On the weekend) to a food market to buy some fresh vegetables. Ive never been and was wondering where they are located?

Cheers

The Hill Street Farmers market in Thorndon is good, but slightly more expensive than average supermarket prices
The Harbourside market is good, I think it shoudl be still on, might be best to check though

The Porirua night markets are great for hot food. While their mid morning Saturday ones, have a great range of fresh, and cheap veggies, and fruit. Although slightly out of Wellington city of course

There's one in front of Te Papa by its car park, and another one just after The Terrace tunnel. I just can't remember which day of the week they are (either Saturday or Sunday).

The "Te Papa one" is diagonally opposite the New World.

The different between market produce, and supermarket ones, is that the market stuff should last a lot longer on your shelf, as it should be fresh and not stored. I often find that supermarket stuff, such as carrots, last less than a week before going moldy and shrivel up.

Newtown school (fruit\vege's) - Saturday

Chaffer's Marina carpark (fruit/vege/meat/misc eats) - Sunday (aka Waitangi Park \ Te Papa carpark) -

City Market "gourmet" market in Chaffers Dock building atrium - Sunday - only until 12:30. (High-end food, mostly priced accordingly).

Corner of Victoria\Willis & Vivian Street (fruit/vege/misc) - Sunday

Hill St Farmers Market (fruit/vege/sweets/cakes) - Saturday - St Paul's Cathedral car park

Underground Market (General market, mostly sweets/cakes for food) - Saturday - Frank Kitts Park.

I've found the Newtown market to be about the cheapest, it's generally the same stuff at all of them, quality can vary dramatically, and is not _always_ better value than the supermarkets, but pretty good odds it is.

"You are" = "You're" - Not "Your".  "They are" = "They're" - Not "Their" or "There".  You probably mean "lose" not "loose".  There's no such word as "Alot".

Add to that if Lower Hutt is in your range, the fresh/fruit/fish/meat/snack food market on Saturday at the river parking lot. It is probably the easiest to park with having the largest parking lot.

Many of the fresh vege vendors there also sell stuff at the Victoria Street market on Sunday.

And if you're really hungry after the market, Denny's on Willis Street opposite the market has a $10(?) all you can eat breakfast buffet on weekends :-)
