Rather than thread-jack the Homeland thread I thought I would start my own.

My Find of the Season is Once Upon A Time. Fairy tales but retold for grown ups. And done really really well.

For me it is the originality of the show that keeps me coming back. I just haven't seen anything like it before.

There is some connection to Lost but I watched that show once and was rather well... Anyhow I never watched it again and don't know if they are similar.

Whats your Find of The Season?

Dog Of the Season - Terra Nova.

Feels like watching lame episodes of Star Gate but with Wesley Crusher clones (yeah, more than one) thrown in for good measure. Kids in my Dino/Sci-Fi? yeah, no thanks.

BTW: The good Star Gate was awesome and the good Trek (Yes, I mean Yesterday's Enterprise) rocked.

What's yours?

Alcatraz and Grimm are a couple of shows new shows I have discovered relatively recently.

Unfortunately the focus seems to be moving away from actual Sci-Fi shows to alternatives with what would probably be better described as "Implied Sci-Fi Origins"

Sorry but Terra Nova is/was absolutely awful.

Cool premise - terrible terrible execution.

Most cliched actors in a series:
Tough Cop dad wronged by the system who ends up saving the day EVERY TIME.
Angsty teen son rebelling against authority (who takes all of 1 episode to get over his obviously long standing absent father issues)
Good looking/clever/amazing doctor wife to resolve any medical issues
Daughter coming into adulthood and forming relationships
cute younger daughter saccarine sweet

Coupled with some of the most wooden and unconvincing acting I have seen in a really really long time..

Along with some of the most ridiculously ripped off/formulaic plots I have seen in a series, not even considering the gaping plot holes in pretty much every single episode.

I am entirely unsurprised it is getting canned given how bad it is and the ridiculous amount they spent on it.

The only thing I can see Terra Nova has going for it is a cast which are better looking than average, no surprises there.

If I had been like Flesh it could have been awesome. As Wikipedia puts it:

The series was set in the age of dinosaurs who were farmed for their meat by cowboys from the future.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Flesh_(comics)

Now doesn't that sound cool?

Homeland, Justified, Sherlock and Dirk Gently have done an excellent job of filling in while I wait for the new season of Game of Thrones but the one I'm really hanging out for is the final double season (two halves?) of Breaking Bad. Possibly my favourite TV show of recent years - able to ratchet up the tension yet another notch episode after episode.

We really are in something of a golden age of seriously good TV. Shame that we're all criminals for wanting to watch it.

I enjoyed Terra Nova, but I also enjoy all the Stargates, there's a lot of similarity. I really liked SGU!
Once Upon a Time, couldn't watch more than a few minutes, not my cup of tea.
Very much enjoyed two seasons of Sherlock.
Yet to start Game of Thrones.
Started watching Community recently, enjoying so far.
The Inbetweeners is very funny indeed, recommended.
Also very much enjoying Tosh.0, essentially a YouTube clip show, but damn funny.
Modern Family is still going strong.

Cheers,
Joseph

Terra Nova wasn't too bad, It had a decent concept behind it and it seemed fairly well done, I think it was a combination of over spending and bad writing in an attempt to bend over too far to cater for all audiences that ruined it.

It had a lot of potential but should never have been a Major Flagship.

Sherlock is Amazing, Just a pity about the 3 episodes a season, Although at least the length is decent.

SGU was an odd one, The first Season was pretty much ruined by excessively long character introductions, This would have been fine if the show had actually made it as far as the other Stargate variants did, The second season got back a little closer to the Stargate roots but still seemed ruined to me as they just seemed to amp up the focus on internal conflict, Without the Stargate background it would have been almost the exact same show which can not be a good sign for a show in a major Sci-Fi chain.

As far as I'm concerned it's a tie between Person of Interest, and Once Upon A Time.

Person of Interest has that odd "okay, this is a totally different approach to TV" that other shows like House & Boston Legal had when they started, of course the concept will get old/boring/tired in a few years, but for now...  The only thing that let it down in my opinion, was TVNZ/CBS,  I have no idea how it premiered on CBS, but it should've been a 2 hour first episode, as they didn't quite explain some of the past until the 2nd/3rd episodes, which is a bit of a gamble, but maybe it did pay off.

Once Upon A Time, now that has some great qualities, in a way I hate it, but the stories haven't been too bad, and they do seem to all fit in well.  Made me think back to the old fairy tales etc.

Both cases, the casting has been pretty good, although I keep thinking the detective in Person of Interest is the same person as the M.E. in Castle (it's not however, she's ex Boston Legal).

I tried once upon a time for a few episodes, but just couldn't get into it, Robert Carlyle was the only highlight, otherwise it was too slow, too kidsy, too airy fairy romancy.

GRIMM on the other hand (not sure if it is airing here yet) is excellent, although, they are dragging out one plot point a bit long, it's OK to have a running mystery, but every now and then you have to reveal something, not just add more mysterious tihngs to the mystery. Thankfully, it's not really a big part of the show so it can be.. somewhat overlooked.

I found that Terra Nova got better in the second part of the season. I hear that NetFlix is looking to pick up season two. Whether we'll ever see season two down here is anyones guess..

terra nova i thought was ok, watched it all on hulu, hated the son character though

once upon a time im really enjoying, i like the twists on the fairy tales (always liked dark versions of fairy tales though) also been watching on hulu, mr gold is the best character and the queen/mayor is good

finder is alright, spin off from bones, but has basically nothing to do with bones, just set in same universe and they did a finder/bones episode in season 6 of bones to test/setup the show

new girl is alright, not a great comedy but ok to watch in the background

free agents US is pretty funny first few episodes were kinda meh though, anythony stewart head ftw

grimm hasnt caught me yet, watched 2 episodes but kinda meh... think its the supernatural + cop thats putting me off

really enjoying "Endgame", another crime solver show but main character is a shut in chess master who solves the crimes, weird concept, but i think it works very well, if it goes well on hulu it will get a second season

and my favourite for last, The Walking Dead, just saw season 2 finale and epic, huge fan of the comics and a great show.

Sherlock and Misifts have been keeping me busy whilst awaiting the new Doctor Who.
My fiancee is loving Once Upon a Time... which makes a nice change from Glee & Desperate Housewives!
