Just tried playing drive and it looked shocking. so soft it would be good for loo paper and with quite visible blocking.

Is there a setting to make it "HD" instead of sub DVD quality?

edit: and just tried the iron giant and its even worse and has a grotty WB logo in the corner.

watched 15min of johnny english(hd) on Bravia TV using standard app. Quality better than dvd but not true hd. I would guess it was at least 720p.

Ps3 still not working.

Overall im impressed. This is going to hit sky movies where it hurts and i can imagine many people canceling movies. Content not nearly as good as netflix (yet). Time will tell. Lack of tv shows suck. But the potential is there for this to just improve.

We compared Quickflix to Netflix at work today and thought the same at first, but after a minute or so the Quickflix video changed resolution/quality and was pretty much as detailed as that from Netflix.

I'm going to support it for a while a see how it does. Also interesting to see how they have some movies that Netflix doesn't have and is lacking some with Netflix does, so obviously they have different agreements with the entertainment industry.

got PS3 working now.

watching lock stock to test now on my 46" full HD TV
streaming over wifi, my dsl connection is approx 20Mbps

image itself looks sharp, but feels slightly 'glitchy',as if it skips a frame every now and then- not sure if that is wifi or not, but will try it hard wired tomorrow.

When I used my laptop, quality was very poor, which made me apprehensive about watching on a large screen, but on PS3 the quality is definitely vastly superior to watching on my browser. seems like they only allow SD using a browser, but HD using a device, presumably to try and reduce piracy somehow.

just tried first 5 mins or so of scorpion king on my PS3 for comparison, and I have to say the quality was vastly better than your pics.  as with my previous post, image was very sharp - DVD quality, not far off 720P, but with the odd glitch that looks like a frame dropped every w and then.  certianly not blocky though

Wow that is very blocky, I have a 2.4-2.7Mbit connection, everything I've loaded seems to come out pretty good, (example of content tried: Larry Crowne - Tested on TV, opening credits looked REALLY nice and clear, Gavin and Stacey (don't ask, but yeah...) - tested on laptop, again, nice and clear, definately around DVD-quality, but I don't care that much, Muppets go to Broadway movie - easily watchable on a TV, not sure about quality, but from 5m away on a 40" screen it was good enough for me, Drive - on Laptop looks okay, there is certainly compression, but it isn't blocky or anything like that.

nigelj: Okay, a report on Quickflix, finally purchased (using Mastercard) and with a new e-mail alias.

Haven't tried PC streaming yet, but I managed to get the Sony TV we have hooked up fine.

With a KDL40CX520 already registered to Sony (on their old site), I went to https://internet.sony.tv signed in, transferred the account to the new Sony Entertainment Network (https://account.sonyentertainmentnetwork.com/), in the Devices page, I clicked on the "My BRAVIA TV" device, Quickflix was listed as disabled, clicked "Enable" followed the prompts (including redirect to Quickflix NZ site), returned, clicked on "I've done it" and then on the TV selected "Refresh Network Content".

Pictures are pretty good on our slowish (2.5Mbit) connection too, so I'm impressed.  Bravo Quickflix, Bravo Sony.

Thank you so much for this.  I originally tried to set up my Bravia and was told that Quickflix wasn't compatible with my device  (which is the same one as yours).  Followed your instructions and voilà .  Quite impressed with the picture quality... and no stuttering at all.

I've also cancelled Sky Movies and Rialto today.

I had the same roblem at first on both IE and Firefox however it turned out the silverlight thingy was not installed once that was done I could play them after a restart only problem I had was as I stated before it wouldn't let me play Blackadder S01E01. Other than that I was not concerned about picture quality. Lock Stock and Two Smoking Barrels looked alright as for the complaints about quality everything I've watched so far was really old so picture quality was about as good as it could have been.

As for cancelling Sky Movies and Rialto or other add on's you can buy I would never pay $80 a month to watch old stuff and only a idiot would. To be nice though when staying at places that have had Rialto I have watched a few good movies on there. Maybe if Sky offer movies or Sport by themselves I may have bought them but not paying $45 - $55 just so i can pay extra.

It actually amazes me that the Govt is even considering pairing with them for Igloo talk about a monopoly situation they should be supporting the alternatives to create competition. not turn off analogue force everyone to get a new tv or stb so they can watch the crap they put on FTA TV. If it's not reality TV then it's long running soaps or old repeats and they wonder why people download content.

Got it working on my ps3 this morning. only had time to check the quality of The Mighty Boosh and it seemed fine for SD content. The Ps3 setup manual specifies 480p with stereo sound so it's definitely not 720p.
