5 is tough. I don't think you are ever going to get to 'keep' the shows. Play them on different devices? Sure, with applications that is totally doable. Watch them as many times as your bandwidth allows and as long as you keep paying the subscription? Sure, stream away. But keep them? No. Content creators got bills to pay too.

i think it will get to the point where everything is just streamed, or you could download DRM free movies.  they did it with music, they should do it with movies.  theres so many devices out there, so many thin clients that just cannot play DRM content.

so instead of movie companies making money off selling movies these devices can play, they force people to get movies in other formats that the clients can play (eg downloading a mkv torrent)

it will be interesting to see how ubuntu tv sells/rents movies when that comes out

Why not?  I get to keep my DVD, VHS, CD, LP, and Cassette Tapes, why can't I keep a downloaded movie.

Why would you need to keep it though if its available 24/7 to stream?

Let me see.

1. Because bandwidth costs money.
2. Because I don't always have enough bandwidth to dedicate.
3. Because I'm not always connected.
4. Because I might want to watch it on some device where bandwidth is REALLY expensive.

Why would anybody want to own a car when they can just call a taxi?

Fair enough, but in that case why not just buy it on DVD/Blu ray?

Edit: Realize that wouldn't work for 4 unless you get one of those multi-play blu rays (of which there aren't many) or ripped it.

Just seen https://twitter.com/#!/ScottOrcon/status/184905803256446976

"Orcon & Quickflix partnership just announced. Woohoo zero rated, unlimited TV and Movies for $9.99 per month"  indication of price there, which sounds okay.

And now also depends on the content/timing!
(Still pointless if it takes 6 months for stuff to get here)

reven:
BraaiGuy: Its available on my PS3. Why can't I get it on my Sony TV?

Simularily for TV3 on demand, but thats only available on a PC - Whats the point.

ps3 is basically just using its browser to deliver these to you, your sony tv doesnt have that built in.  personally i think ps3s implementation of tvnz ondemand is pretty crap, navigation is a PITA.

...and buggy. Crashes all the time.

SLINGSHOT will be the first ISP to un-meter Quickflix:

You may have heard the announcement that QUICKFLIX has launched in New Zealand?

We are pleased to announce that Slingshot will be the first ISP to un-meter NZ's newest online movie subscription service.

You don't have to do a thing - just sign up with QuickFlix, enjoy the service and don't worry about your data cap - only with Slingshot from tomorrow!!

Do telstraclear still have that poor attempt at an unmetered video site?  I can't even remember it's name.

sapage: SLINGSHOT will be the first ISP to un-meter Quickflix:

Sorry to say it, but if you read my post above, you'd find that Orcon had already announced that they are unmetering it. (edit, even prior the Slingshot announcement on the 'official forums' (see timestamp on: http://forum.slingshot.co.nz/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=4879

Doubt that they'd announce pre-release if it's not from moment 1.

Curious though, is launch time 00:00, or 09:00 or what?
