old3eyes: Looks like those who were hopping for HBO content are going to be disappointed..

"The only other difference in the offering was that Quickflix New Zealand would not have a package of shows from Home Box Office because Sky had signed an exclusive deal for New Zealand rights to HBO programming, which is the foundation for its premium channel Soho."

http://www.nzherald.co.nz/business/news/article.cfm?c_id=3&objectid=10795165.

I suspect that this will be the problem with all TV content. Unless it's been shown here you won't get to see it and the same will apply to movies. Unless it's available on DVD or BD here you won't see it either..

And therein lies the problem.....

As a customer (and simplifying things) I don't care that sky has broadcast rights, I don't have sky, don't want sky, I want my tv, if I can't get it legally, then I'll get it other ways - either illegally, or by pretending I live in a different country.

I wonder if this will make companies like Netflix and Hulu come to NZ. Netflix said they wouldn't come due to our poor broadband, but if they could unmeter with ISP's like Quickflix has, then surely they would look at NZ as an option

Hmmm not off to a good start, Signed up, Can't stream - Asks me to call an 0800, 0800 number says they are only open for support from 11am to midnight.

You'd think on launch day they would atleast have support open early

Looks like this is a seriously neutered service. I was considering signing up just to support the fact that we have a service like this in NZ now...but on looking deeper it's got to be just a joke....they can't be serious....

The tv content is laughable to be honest. You can't launch on to the market with rubbish like that.

Thats in part to do with SKY's lockdown, Without support things like quickflix wont have the numbers or cash to goto war with Sky

The problem is that if people don't use the service they won't have numbers to justify content owners licensing it. It's a catch 22 really.

Agreed.  I looked at it and it was worse than TiVo which is the pits..

I'm signing up, simple as that.

Basically $9.00 to $17.00 per month is a very cheap price for a legal option.

So it isn't perfect.

I don't pirate so it is better than scratched DVDs from the store or waiting for Fastso to post discs.

I hope the content gets better, but that isn't going to happen without support.

+1

Theyve just opened the doors, give it a chance.

Just because youve downloaded illegally all the shows they offer isnt their fault...  ;)

And it's down,

Even if it has issues or lack of content I'll stay signed up as it's a good idea
