I'm a low user and have learnt that not everybody gets the same prices.

I'm keen to see what sort of prices others are getting for their electricity on Powershop.

Please post your specials here so that we can do some comparisons.

PS: I am located in Kapiti

All I can tell is that this pricing is almost a bit of an insult

Tell me about it.

Since we moved our unit prices have shot up to this ...

When quering it they told me that its because I am a low user and those prices will come down once my account is reviewed after the first month. Well the review came and went and I am still paying far higher prices that I was in my old propery.

Here is an example:

Old Property in Winter:

Old Property 1 year ago (Summer price)

New property Price in Summer:

Seems ridiculous to me.

I win (so far).

Note - this is a beach house, so, I understand the price is higher. When we do go up and use it though, it costs a fair bit due to the inflated unit prices.

OK seems I am not as bad off as some of you. Thanks for sharing.

I think its ridiculous that Powershop does not offer low usage plans. Why are low users penalised with these high prices. I am dreading going into Winter and making use of our heat pumps.

Because Powershop include the line charge in their unit pricing, if you use very little they will hit you hard,

It arose, because they had a whole lot of low use customers flock to them because they did not have a fixed line charge, them they decided to hit these low users with much higher units because they were not making enough from these customers,

Talk about not thinking about the consequences of you pricing structure,

from what I hear P'Shop are now not really any cheaper for low users......

And here is where it gets interesting. I am using about the same about of units per month in my new property as per my old property. So why such a difference in cents/unit?

Old Property Same time last year (Waikanae, Kapiti Coast):

New Property Same time this year (Paraparumu, Kapiti Coast):

I agree and am aware of this. But as shown I am using more or less the same amount of power as I was in my old property. So why am I paying such higher charges now cents/unit. I am only using an average of 3units less now per day.

Rotorua - Low user
Since switching to Powershop a little over a year ago, I am paying consistently less than when I was with Trustpower, even with the price increases we've seen over the past 6 months

Pretty confident I've got this one in the bag:

We're a business with very low usage (effective 3 computers 24/7, a few lights here and there). Being a business our fixed daily charge (which on Powershop is absorbed into the unit price) is fairly high. Not many units = massive cost per unit.

This winter power in my office (3 computers, fan heater for maybe 10hrs per week) cost more than at home (electric water heating, heat pump on 20º 24/7, cooking, etc, etc). It's pretty dumb.

Jumped ship and went back to our old provider Mercury. Powershop was getting up in the $200's, as soon as we swapped back to Mercury our bill dropped back down to $160-$190 a month.

We also last month just had a new smart meter installed free, where we had no luck with Powershop.

When we first joined Powershop the prices were great, it was only the last year that things went a little crazy.
