Hey guys, my host family has a GPS unit that can only accept 512mb (max) SD cards. Since the hard drive is broken, SD card remains the only method to play music etc on the gps unit. Yes it is an old unit :) 
We bought an 8gb card before checking, and my initial thought was to partition the card into 512mb segments. 

Has anyone experienced a similar thing? (doesn't have to be gps related)
Any reccomendations of software to use for partitioning the SD card? or just good ol' cmd? 

Lastly, will it recognise 16 segments of 512mb? or just 1 512 partition? (might have to try both)

Sorry, just won't work.

The new card is an SDHC card, not a SD card. The SD size limitations do not come from the partition sizes/MBR, but rather the command protocol used.

One of the fundamental differences with SDHC is in the read/write commands. They use the same commands, but controllers are supposed to 'know' that the offsets are no longer expressed in byte-sized units, but rather in blocks (512-bytes).
