I'd really love to see some premium USA TV content, eg Fox/NBC; even if it was relatively old. Such as earlier seasons of House, The Big Bang Theory, Smallville, So You Think You Can Dance, The Office, Criminal Minds, The Mentalist, etc.
And not just available one episode at a time for a limited time, like it is on OnDemand, but whole seasons available, like how Seasons 1, 2, and 3 of Blackadder are on Quickflix. Content is King!

Personally not the be all end all, anyone doing netflix via vpn, or hulu via vpn or itunes, or torrenting has the same issue.  Granted streaming is a bit more of a problem for "reuse of media" but that's a mental shift needed.  Also I believe once the content is there, the datacaps will follow, or people will migrate to those ISPs with unmetering....

I agree totally with this.

so many movies will be rotated into streaming a month, these can be brand new movies or old movies.  when they say just added, they mean just added for streaming.

note: not all their movies will be available for streaming at a time, they will license so many movies from a movie studio at a time.  so Tootsie (awesome movie btw) will be available for a few months then rotate out.  kind of like sky movies.

lokhor: I also think there are several ISPs who have deals with Sky and so won't offer unmetered access to competing services like Quickflix.

I have heard about this too.

I am very keen to hear who these ISP's are! Time to maybe name and shame them?

But surely if they have deals then iSky is unmetered? (Which as far as I know is not the case).

And very weird that Slingshot is both unmetered on isky and now Quickflix

Just added is not the same as New Releases.

However, under New releases they also have some films from 2006, so go figure.

lokhor: I've been thinking about this since long before it was announced and while I've signed up for the trial and I would really like Quickflix to succeed, here's why I think it probably won't:
  • Lack of in demand content due to Sky licensing deals, especially HBO and Sports
  • Not having content in a timely manner, who wants to wait for Game of Thrones a year after it has aired in the US?
  • Not enough support on TV connected devices (Only PS3 and Sony Bravia TVs currently)
  • Data caps (Only Slingshot and Orcon are unmetered)
  • New Zealanders on average are pretty stupid/ignorant of technology (Geekzone is not an indication of the average NZer)
Notice that I didn't put piracy in there as for most people this isn't a consideration, and studies have shown that piracy decreases when reasonably priced legitimate services are available.?

I think the commerce commission needs to look at the lack of competition for content. I guess the more people that complain to them, the better. I am not so worried about caps, as there is competition in this area (and it will only get better), and if ISPs are losing business due to other ISPs offering unmetering, then they will also need to offer that.

People complain when there's no option for legal content sourcing, then complain when there's...

My point is that pirates will keep pirating, regardless. It would be wonderful if that was not the case, but sorry, it's how it works. Free trumps paid.

I don't know about other people but I've been hunting for somewhere to watch The West Wing online, and got sick of popups and bad streams and went to subscribe to this service. The price is fair, but they only have like 7-9 TV shows, and most are quite old. And no West Wing :-(

So I guess I'm 1 subscriber which wants to pay! Now if anyone knows where I can legally pay to watch West Wing online in NZ that would be great.

Tyler - Parnell Geek - iPhone 3G - Lenovo X301 - Kaseya - Great Western Steak House, these are some of my favourite things.

So PS3 worked today, just watched "Driver" Here's a quick run down:

Zero buffering after initial wind up, on 3Mb wireless bb(!)
Picture: 6/7 out of 10 (my old Panny PV7 42" handles 480P well).
Sound: 4/10 I may need to do work at my end but was too quiet.
Ease of use: 9/10 (so far!)
Selection: 6/10 room for improvement, Clockwork orange on the to watch list!

For my situation in the boonies it is a good product, I look forward to enjoying more content in the future.

Talking to a friend, Quickflix has not shown up on his PS3!?

It was on iSky a couple of weeks ago, not on there now though.

Why not try the local DVD store?
