Hi all,

Anyone know how, in this day and age, there can be the high possibility of not being able to get Broadband connected to a House we are going to rent in Churton Park, Wellington?

Have phoned Vodafone, who guaranteed that we could, then 3hrs later said that there'd be no chance
We nee broadband for a Home Office situation, so will potentially be renting a great house with no internet

Anyone know of any other providers other than the main ones that can provide services?

Cheers!

What's their reasoning. I would suggest contacting telecom, as their support these days is really good and their pricing too is now one of the lowest.

Telecom have got a tech going on Wednesday to check.
If they say there'e no ports free, then we're stuffed, already signed a lease agreement on the property and NEED Internet

Yeah, I know I should have checked, just never thought that in 2012 there'd be possibly no connection.
Telstra Cable - will be checking in store tomorrow

If Vodafone can't provide a ADSL port then no provider can! This must of been covered so many times on Geekzone, No ISP can que jump this is all regulated if the Chorus tech finds a port free then it has to be allocated to the next person on the list no matter what ISP they are with,

If you get the port and others are on the waiting list then questions will be asked and someone will be answering to the MED or Comcom

You sure it isn't BoF fibre? If so then only Xnet can provide a service.

Thanks JohnR
The worst thing about this is that a Tech Support rep from Vodafone did a pre-qual test and *guaranteed* broadband and phone at the address.
I even asked him multiple times that he was absolutely sure that we could
I then got transferred to the Call Centre to sign-up on a plan and was told that there was no way that we could get it

So, understandably, I was feeling more than a little miffed at this, but basically no one cared about it after that, and they just kept saying we'd have to join a waiting list and there's no guarantees or time that we could have it

We're in 2012, this is a crazy position to be in, not that hard to provide broadband for everyone in urban areas is it?

No, not a fibre connection, just plain old ADSL2+

Go speak to the people that live there now and if they have BB active ask if you can move it into your name before they close it down

Some parts of Churton park DO NOT HAVE DSL or ANY copper services - you have to use fibre. THis is only the newer subdivision part though.

A Chorus prequal doesn't guarantee a port free, it merely indicates whether an address can receive a connection.

I'd be fairly confident the issue won't be a lack of ports, and will be something that will easily be resolved. It's not uncommon to see this as a generic Chorus response to a order request when there are other issues with the connection or address.

Owners of the property left over 4 weeks ago, and line at address is dead, so can't use their connection.
It's an original part of Churton Park, house is 20 years old I'd say, and can see demarc with line coming in
There is the little green fibre box at the footpath though.

Hope you're right sbiddle, I really do!

If you can't get DSL in Churton Park then your best option is TelstraClear cable.
