The new one looks like it was designed by marketing to appeal to consumers. Or someone doesnt want to update/maintain the data set. "Urban broadband > 10 Mbps" doesnt help me at all when they have painted the entire city with this layer -_-, and i know theres plenty of non 10mbps connections in hamilton (not just because of their wiring). Plus i just put my address into it, it found the address, and the marker/red dot below the map lists an address around the corner with a different street name. Good going. naggyman: http://bcc.telecomwholesale.co.nz/ still works. All the same information. I use this all the time to check to see if addresses are cabinetized and how close. at minimum it needs this information.

Hey, at least /maps allows me to actually enter my address. SAT always claims that my address is "not in the database". Pretty useless really.

It may be that direct customers of Chorus may log in for more detailed info, however, having this information in the public domain (as long as it is not commercially sensitive) seems to have a number of benefits: 1) Reduced burden on Chorus' customers (i.e. the ISPs) for end users wanting info on a prospective area they may move to 2) Increased ability for end users to diagnose connection issues, particularly relating to sync speed / line length. 3) General goodwill to the community of interested parties, such as those on Geekzone. Given that the information is of course already available, and appears that it will continue to be available to direct customers, I can't imagine there are technical reasons why the /sat (or a very similar tool) cannot continue. There will of course be reasons why Chorus has made this descision; it would be interesting to know their viewpoint on why. Essentially, the /map and /sat are two very different tools. /map provides a generic overview of future works and very general coverage, while the /sat provides a greater level of detail of the current network configuration. Combining the information from both would be a good outcome, however at the very least, leaving the /sat tool functional, and updated with current information. Even better would be the inclusion of the approx line length, expected sync rate and DSLAM model information availalable to ISPs (for pre-qual etc.), although no doubt with time this will become less important as UFB becomes the dominant delivery to the premises.

Hi All, Probably one for Chorus to answer, but the info we can share is that they have moved onto a new system (Chorus Coverage Maps) developed by a company called Wialus. All Chorus customers/ISP's have access to this, and this is what our Support desk uses for coverage information including prequalification as Sbiddle mentions, our website will also check for both ADSL and VDSL availability when you signup based on prequalification (DSLAM availability and copper loop length / Line Attenuation dB) The SAT tool will not be updated, and also does not have the most current info so its certainty worth checking with your ISP for the latest info, there are areas which have had recent upgrades which are not yet showing, and probably wont show on this tool. I did notice that the /sat tool hasn't really been updated much since the full changeover to Chorus, and that /maps has been getting the attention; so you confirm my suspicion Ralph. There is still good historical data though under the /sat for urban areas, and it would be sad to loose this. Chorus has spent $1.4 billion on making their ADSL broadband network faster. Why not spend a couple of hundred to make sure you are getting the most out of your connection? Geekzone special price: $150* for master splitter install, normally $200+ through your ISP. It would be ok if RBI and VDSL coverage was added to the new map. But yea as Snap mentioned there website does a quick check when you put an address in. I will probably use that a bit when the sat goes away. It just isn't that accurate with UFB as I guess they dont have a handover every where yet. But then I guess I can look at the new Chorus map for up to date UFB coverage.

I do like how SAT and Maps put our address in two different suburbs. Sat seems to follow NZPost suburb outlines better than Maps does.

Chorusvan spoke to the team that manages our tools and they asked us to post this response; Hi all, Liam here from Chorus. We have been looking at streamlining our mapping tools to support more efficient updates of the data. We have historically had FOUR separate mapping tools, but we were getting demand for one truly integrated map with clear methodology, that becomes one accurate source of information that is updated regularly. It sounds easy: it isn’t! But we are working on it. Our goal is to get better alignment of coverage information across our reporting tools to help avoid confusion (something has become quite important as our network goes through some significant changes). We also have a number of enhancements plans to offer more detail and support planning. We recognise the SAT has more detail than the UFB map as it stands, so we recognise your concerns about its closure. We are in the process of transferring a lot of this information to the UFB map. VDSL was intended to be shifted across by the end of the month meaning the UFB would have the same coverage information as SAT. However, we have also found that the cabinet and exchange boundaries also have high use so we are now in the process of including that into the UFB map as well. We will leave SAT running as we transfer this information which should be over the next two weeks. Thanks for all the great feedback and support.
