Johnk:
oh ok,thanksso im presuming i have to change the settings on the window firewall to free up those ports? or do i  just add bitorrent to a trusted program list?

Yeah add it to the list, but usually windows firewall never causes any problems.  Do you have any other firewalls on the computer?

Why not try uTorrent?

You only need to forward a single port and if your router is uPnP enabled it will configure itself.
It's the best client I've used, and I've made a point to try most of the major ones.

1) Install uTorrent from the website
2) Set a port to use (pick a high one like 44444 for example)
3) Follow through the port forward guide on PortForward.com
4) Test if you're connectable by clicking the 'Test if Port is Forwarded Properly' button (or clicking here if you've used port 44444)
