I've been on suburb safari, and have physically located PLM/G, my new cabinet.
Interestingly it doesn't look that new itself, but does have what looks like extensive underground cabling work very recently done all around it, including the installation of a large "Telecom" manhole cover-type plate adjacent.
I've also noticed a number of recent short ADSL outages.
So I guess the fibre and local lines are in place, and the switchover work is in progress.
So, with all due impatience, I'll wait for a while to see what happens.
cyril7: Hi, looking at your location in relation to the exchange (crn of ariho and lake) the 34db (around 2.5km) of cable would not be too far from the truth.
However for 34dB I would expect significantly higher sync rate, maybe you could explain you house wiring and how many phone devices and outlets and how many filters.
Cheers Cyril
Hi Cyril,
I meant to ask - what is the 'sync rate' you refer to above, and how does it affect ADSL performance.
Also if I was to get a splitter put in, can I do it myself, or are Telecom/Chorus the only ones allowed to?
Hi, the sync rate is the rate (speed) that the modem connects at, from your first post it would appear to be around 2Mb/s.
You could install a central splitter yourself, but it often requires a bit of knowledge and ideally some test gear (toner etc) to do it correctly, for some DIY's its easy for others its not. No Telecom/Chorus are not the only ones, independant cablers and telecommunication techs can easily do this for you, ie PM me if you are after a splitter install, my prices are quite keen for GZ members

Hi Cyril,
The post with my ADSL stats in it was #290861 above.
I cannot see where you get the 2Mb/s of sync from??
Steve your sync rate is 6.2Mb/s, not 2 that was tonys sorry about that.
Data Rate 6267 905kbps
And also you should find cablers in your area that can install a splitter for you, if you are handy with basic tools and not technologically challenged then you can install it yourself, I can supply filter and parts at wholesale rates, PM me and I can help more.
