Oldhat: Fairly unusual to get such dramatic drops in throughput on a cabinet.

Could you also post a tracert result from wxc.net.nz as that would be the speedtest server you are using.

I disagree.. I pretty much never had peak hour lag until I was cabnetised. Now I get sweet connect speeds but on nights where things are congested it's a nightmare. Not sure if its cabinet backhaul, or Chorus <-> TC Handoff but something in there causes nasty lag.

Strongly thinking of dropping myself to the 256k speed plan, I don't see the point of paying for full-speed ADSL. I expect it's going to be more of a buck-passing fight than I've got time for.

If it is that big of an issue I strongly suggest you switch ISP's.. Smile

Ragnor: Sounds like handover link congestion from Telecom wholesale to Xnet. The basic path your data takes is:

Your Line > Cabinet/Exchange > Backhaul > Handover Link > ISP network (domestic/international transit/caching etc)

As far as I know Xnet are not yet using Telecom wholesale's newer EUBA service to provide adsl services. You are likely still getting adsl using the older BUBA or UBS services from Telecom wholesale.

Telecom retail are using EUBA for all their new connections (and migrating old customers) where the customer is connected to a new cabinet or exchange that is capable of it. I believe Maxnet, Slingshot, Snap, Orcon are using EUBA now too.

Unless someone from Xnet can elaborate on their plans, personally I'd change ISP.

Changing to an ISP who can provision your connection via EUBA will likely resolve the problem imo.

hes a TCL customer not an Xnet customer ,look at his trace route, hes testing via international as everyboby knows Telstra don't do peering unless you pay them. test to a local TCL speedtest

Yes I am a employee of WxC (My Profile) ... but I do have my own opinions as well Wink

WxC          XNet

Thought of that. That's why I use the Auckland server (WorldXchange) rather than the Wellington (Citylink) one - despite being in Wellington. Traceroute to Citylink goes international, traceroute to WorldCchange stays within NZ.

My mistake, must have got mixed up when replying with a different thread.

Replace the word Xnet with Telstraclear in my previous reply and it's probably still right, don't think Telstraclear are migrating or signing up new customers on EUBA yet either.

There are two Auckland speedtest.net servers, one hosted by Xnet and the other by Vodafone.

TCL have a speedtest somewhere in customer tools when you're logged in on their site IIRC.
