Interesting.

Where money is spent in one place, there's bound to be a negative counter balance elsewhere.

At least Microsoft and Intel have relatively deep pockets. Can't say the same for the likes of Sharp/Panasonic/Sony. Dell/HP/Acer just hanging in there I guess.

I read an article somewhere stating that Google aren't really that bothered with the phone hardware market - their primary revenue is via advertising. Their main concern is to distribute as many Android phones as possible - irrespective of the cost to the manufacturer or reseller (or of the actual device itself).

Apple make a lot of money because they control so much of their own eco system - without the advertising, and maintain significant margins in their products.

yeah that Market Value graph with Apple in it is amazing. It looks like you could put Google, Amazon, Facebook and Disney on top of one another and they still wouldnt be quite equal with Apple.

Very interesting read indeed, and surprising to see how much revenue is made from apple apps vs Google apps.

Looking at the trend of mobile use, it does make you wonder if betting on FTTH was the right choice instead of creating an awesome mobile platform for all providers to use.

It was the right choice. Mobile technology is years away from equalling fibre. Not only that, fibre enables new mobile deployment technologies like Fibre To The Antenna (FTTA) which are needed for the next generation anyway.

I thought cell sites had a fairly high priority for the UFB rollout... But if you cant offload the heavy usage onto a fixed network then mobile would become instantly congested. Fibre supports many other services. Would still be nice if all councils allowed bigger shared towers to support multiple wireless providers everywhere. Sealed




Qualified in business, certified in fibre, stuck in copper, have to keep going  ^_^
