Hi,

It appears one man has bought a house in the area that was due to get this and provided accomodation rent free to tech types who needed to start up IT companies needin g this type of speed....They are trying to spawn a IT Tech hub there by making cheap access to this speed available to startups etc...

See

http://arstechnica.com/business/2012/11/google-fiber-is-live-in-kansas-city-real-world-speeds-at-700-mbps/

A bit along the lines of "Build it and they will come"...or do it and see what happens... spark a brush fire etc...

We missed out on getting fibre here in Tuakau (just ADSL2+ and VDSL available in two zones.... Its a shame as local high school kids tend to hang out in the main street but may have been interested if this type of speed was available in town or at home.... we just could be amazed at what they could do if given the chance....fire up a tech hub here and there in NZ.....

Rgds
