Topic # 112489 10-Dec-2012 22:34 Send private message

So, I've had one of these True Net test routers here for awhile. It works fine, but when I'm gaming on XBOX live, it will randomly start doing it's tests right in the middle of my game and lag it out.  I have it connected directly to my modem, the XBOX/PS3/PC is connected to it also.  I thought it wouldn't run tests when you were using it?

Anyone else experience similar issues?

Hi, that is the first comment I have heard like that. I wonder if the game you are playing has such short bursts of data that the probe is unable to see the burst and stop in time before you are impacted?

I'll come back tomorrow after a chat with our expert - or better still get him to answer direct :-)

Thanks for that.  It's COD Black Ops 2.  I haven't noticed it in previous games, but then I didn't have the router in view when I was gaming so I didn't see if it was testing or not.

How do you tell if the probe is testing? Is this when the lights go orange? I'll check my probe next time I'm gaming to see if mine does the same but I generally haven't noticed any lag problems.

Probably should also mention that even when I'm hosting in Black Ops 2 the router starts testing and I can see other players connections go from 4 bars to 1

What does 4 bars to one mean?

Not familiar with the game :-)

I'm not 100% sure on the exact ping time, but generally it's like this...

4 Bars 0-99ms, 3 Bars 100-199ms, 2 bars 200ms+ etc.

Interesting what you need to go find out, but here it is: When the Green wlan light is on the unit is testing (third led along). When the orange world light is on the unit is paused, waiting for network traffic to reduce (second led along).

I played a few games of Black Ops Ii today and my TrueNet Probe appears to be functioning as advertised. Even the tiny amount of bandwidth used by the game paused testing and I didn't experience any lag. My Xbox is plugged via ethernet directly into the device.

My probe lights don't seem to behave as JohnButt described though. My wlan light is always green (3rd LED). Testing seems to be indicated with an orange power light (1st LED) and the orange world light (2nd LED) shows when the testing is paused. Unless this all means something else?
