Hey guys! I'm going to be moving house soon. Its a great house, but the deciding factor is the internet. At the moment, the customer currently connected is connected to the exchange, but was connected before the area upgraded with cabinets. Customer syncs at 1.4Mb/s down (modem stats), which makes me cringe. But if a cabinet is now there, I might be able to connect to that. Is there any Telecom people out there that could run a pre-qualification on the address to see if I could connect to wholesale equipment? I know it's a long shot. I can PM the address. Looks like I might be going down the master splitter with hacked modem route if I can't haha! As I said, I know its a long shot in the dark, but I might as well try, its a really nice house otherwise! Cheers :) Sometimes what you don't get it a blessing in disguise!

Turns out I can connect to the cab I am just out of range of. On UCLL, I'm looking at 1.2 to 1.4Mb/s. On wholesale EUBA I am looking at 2.6 to 2.8, which I hope to inflate with my modem. Hope all goes well. For others in the same position, I would certainly ask! Sometimes what you don't get it a blessing in disguise!

sbiddle: Any ISP can do a prequal for you, it doesn't have to be Telecom. I know, but Slingshot were closed and I never use wireline so I forgot my password and couldn't submit one myself. I know Telecom reps lurk around late at night :) Sometimes what you don't get it a blessing in disguise!

If the master filter doesn't fix everything then you might find that hacking the modem sync makes it less reliable... Some areas have a lot of multiples (branch taps or whatever) that cause just enough crosstalk to give your noise margin a bit of fluctuation. With those speeds in the city I would be suprised if there wasn't some kind of fault on the line or old (maybe even 3-wire) house wiring. Qualified in business, certified in fibre, stuck in copper, have to keep going ^_^

I'm down a narrow "road" and up an 800 meter metal driveway. People next door are connected to the exchange. I must find out how far it is away. I'm sure a master splitter may solve a few things. Try the router hack first, since it is cheaper and I'm poor. Its gotten my city connection from 14.5 to 16.5 at this house. I might get an extra 1Mb out of my new house, haha! Sometimes what you don't get it a blessing in disguise!
