Hi Guys. i have recently moved into ny new home and i have a question i decided to get vdsl at my new place however we have an alarm and snap's connection prices are waaayyy too high. but what i notced around the house is that i have multiple boxes where the connection goes inside the house. so iam wondering i that woukd mean i dont need a master splitter. also iam on a port waiting list. ridiculous for the fact that i live in a very fast developing area of auckland.
thanks kuba

If you are in Auckland then CoffeeBaron is your man. Look him up on here. I think his price was $150. It is a worth while thing to do anyway.

You will probably find you are only a waiter for a VDSL port and probably not an ADSL port. So they could get ADSL on for you in the mean time and then swap it to VDSL in the future.

That is problem since i just started school and cant get internet. what iam thinking is that this house has been built 2 years ago maybe we have it installed. and i have around 3 small boxes around the house that connect to my house and they look like a box where you jnstall a master splitter.

Port Waiter's for VDLS2 are pretty common. It simply means a VDSL2 line card hasn't yet been fitted to the cabinet you're serviced from you you'll have to wait until that is installed which can be a lead time of a couple of weeks.

The fact you have multiple jackpoints means you need a master filter and an alarm makes a master filter mandatory.

In regard to the external connection boxes - the real ETP is most likely to be near the point where the power and water come in to the house and the other two are most likely to interconnect cable around the outside of the house, were maybe an additional jackpoint was required, after the house was prewired

Mate, do post some photos as I find it confusing when you say the "3" boxes on the outside of your house are for what you say i.e. SKY wont have a box on the outside...rather it would be a cable from the lounge to the roof dish. For an alarm, the cable wont be visable (shouldnt be) and the only thing on the outside should be the siren/strobe box). IS your street serviced by telstra cable (something tells me it wont be).

You also have to consider that there may be power and gas on these outside boxes.

A house that new should have a star wiring configuration unless the electrician is ultimate sh!t. This usually goes to the garage. You should put your master splitter in here or if you will be using Snap's VOIP service it isn't even necessary. Coffeeebaron will be able to get this wired up correctly if it hasn't been already.

Iam going to use voip but the problem is the alarm i will ask the house owner if the house alarm is wired up to the phone line. if it is i will contact coffebaron :) i have opened the box and there was no splitter i took a picture but i cannot upload it as iam using internet on my phonee and cannot upload the picture. but the cables look preety organised in gel casings separated from each other i wonder if i coffeebaron just checks the boxes and then install splitters if necessary

Phone wiring in series is still the norm, not the exception.

I hope that's not the power cable.

If you don't know 100% what each box is, DO NOT TOUCH THEM.

+1  please get someone who knows what they are doing to take a look and in the meantime when you get a moment post the photos.  The big black cable will most likley be the mains power feed from the street.
