Hi guys, I've been put in charge of organizing internet for out flat in Avonhead, Christchurch. Seriously looking in to going with Snap. I'm just a bit worried about installation and what will be required in the house. We are moving in next week so is there some way I can find out what wiring is in the house and what it is capable of? Snap's install fees are pretty high as well.. Thanks for any help, I clearly wouldn't have a clue what I'm doing..

How many in the flat and how much do people use the net? I would usually tend to suggest an unlimited plan to not cause issues around who uses what but at the sme time VDSL2 would be pretty helpful with many users - that is if you can get it. Have you tried your address in the Chorus SAT (google it)?

Why go Unlimited when Snap do a 1TB plan? And can offer ADSL, VDSL and UFB

Snap. Standard naked adsl plan comes with 50GB for $75. For an extra $15 that becomes 150GB and you get unmetered between 1am to 7am.

Don't be complacent - if I were you have a 1 strike rule - the first infringement notice that comes in you cut off the internet for all, so secondly, don't sign up for a long contract. IMO :D Procrastination eventually pays off.

Possibly create a holding company or trust (harder). I don't think the directors would be liable so you can just fold the company.

In all seriousness, this is a very good question particularly at this time of year. Perhaps it should be directed at SNAP, InternetNZ or Tech Liberty. The reality is, unless you have access to everyone's computer there is no possible way that you can protect yourself. As we saw with the last case ignorance is not going to be any defence to the tribunal. Legally, you could get a contract drawn up which agrees that nobody will download/share (yeah right) and that in the event that you are taken to the tribunal all costs and damages are shared equally to all parties that use the connection. Maybe this is something that Tech Liberty could draft. Procrastination eventually pays off.

The problem with that is that enforcing it is going to be tricky. I guess you'd have to go to the Disputes Tribunal if anyone piked.

Or just sign up like most other NZers and dont download rihanna and lady gaga songs. ..... get yourself a seed box and do it that way.

Yeah I think we will just sign up for Snap and keep it simple. We all have friends that live in the halls and they have access to "the hub" p2p network. I'm sure we can get our 'supplies' from them. Is there anything I need to be check regarding install etc.. Thanks for all your help everyone!

Or just switch ISPs as soon as you get a second notice.. Of course, if you don't like your accounting holding flatmate, good way to screw with them! (Or get a flat seedbox)

They will take care of the install.
