Yeah, their warranties are pretty awesome too! I almost always buy parts online so I'll end up with five years of warranty on everything I purchase instead of one.

Workstation: Intel DH67CL ~ i5-2500 ~ 4GB Corsair RAM (x2) ~ Intel X25-M 80GB SSD

Laptop: Dell Inspiron 1564 ~ i5-520M ~ 4.00GB RAM ~ 500GB SATA HDD ~ Win7 Home Premium x64

Common misconceptions.

Yep. Basically, Ascent is my first port of call for online reseller items. Simply due to the extended warranties.

they may not be asking for the up front cost of an extended warranty but just look at their prices it's pretty hard not to see that your paying for it anyways

point in case Gigabyte GeForce GTX 660 OC HDMI DisplayPort Dual-DVI 2GB on pricespy.co.nz

Alpha City $359.85

Ascent $396.70

Nothing you buy ever has anything free added to it for nothing the cost is alway included in the price you pay whether you realize it or not

I'm not going to argue that the warranty is not somehow built into the price because of course it is.

But, at the same time, Ascent have always traditionally been slightly more expensive than some of the other retailers, but have always made up for it with their extremely high level of service.

I've been a customer for many years before the extended warranty thing was introduced, and I have not noticed any appreciable increase in pricing since this policy came in to play.

They have done extremely well there imo.

I think the main reason for the higher prices from Ascent is because they buy from New Zealand distributors and don't parallel import products like all the cheap stores on pricespy most likely do.

+1. I have bought things sporadically from them for many years and I fully agree with all of this. Service is great, including a couple of occasions when I have had send stuff back to them.

People still tend to buy from the cheapest place these days. Perhaps not businesses as much, as long as the price isn't too different. But this extended warranty is focused more towards business buyers anyway, as personal shoppers would be covered by the CGA.

I've never had a problem with Alpha City either they're quick to send my orders and very good when and if something goes wrong and they don't drop ship or buy from overseas either they use only NZ distributors

Just because Ascent has good service doesn't mean you should be stung with higher prices

I don't think it's realistic to expect the cheapest price, the best service and everything else rolled into one. There is an overhead for businesses to provide the best service, and I'd be prepared to pay for it.

I work as a services buyer and we have a saying. You can get good, cheap, or fast. Choose two. That's the most accurate summary of retail I've ever come across.

As far as Ascent goes - I've purchased from them (and others too) on numerous occasions. Don't hesitate to recommend them, they're the best I've come across.
