Hi there. I was looking at upgrading my Desktop PC but thought I would see what is out there first as for somebody like me it could be easier just to buy a ready made PC. Anyway I went to DSE and Noel Leeming and searched "Desktop". For DSE only Laptops and accessories popped up and for Noel Leeming All in one Pcs and Laptops popped up. Can you no longer buy Desktop PCS from these stores or have I been searching for the wrong thing?

most of the machine's I see on display these days are "all in ones" - you can still go online to buy it from dell.co.nz / lenovo etc. I've seen JB hifi with Alienware small form factor pcs. Quite frankly, if you are going to get a 'standard desktop' PC off the shelf, there is a very high chance it is already stale technology.

Geekzone Price desktop listings goes for pages and pages. Some All-In-One, but some just plain old desktops and towers. If you want a decktop PC, then you need to go to a "real" computer shop not an appliance store. There are still several New Zealand companies that build PC's to order and they are right up to date. Most of my business is still retailing PC's. A local company that comes to mind is JDI in Parnell but there are many others. mxpress

The big box retailers have mainly pulled out of the desktop PC market. Try somewhere like PB Tech, Computer Lounge, Ascent, Playtech etc.

You're best option Value for $$ as well as support will be a local computer shop that still assembles themselves. If you're after a brand name your best bet is to go to likes of dell.co.nz and order online. +1 for avoiding DSE, HN, NL etc for desktops. the ones they do sell are massively overpriced and very low spec.

Depends what you want it for really. I can get you HP/Lenovo business desktops through work if that's what your after. If you want custom built, you pretty much can't go past Computer Lounge

Only quality high end parts, not like what PBtech and other places do - skimping out on motherboards, ram speed/brand and other things that the consumer won't notice from reading off the spec.

Or build one yourself from high quaility components. It is pretty basic, and fun too, to build one. I have built my last two without any problems. The last one I had built by a company was poorly put together.
