My 19" HP monitor (model 1907, I think), has gone completely dead.

The local IT man has put in a new fuse which also blew when he tested it.

The replacement monitor he lent me works fine so it is the monitor at fault, not the computer. The IT man says he will try to fix it further but might have to send it back to Compaq. I am almost inclined to buy a new Samsung for $299 from DSE but the broken monitor is only 16 months old and I am reluctant to ditch it.

Any ideas what the problem could be? Is it worth whatever Compaq charges to get it fixed?

Thanks for any help.

You have had a Service guy have a look at the monitor in person, but he is unable to tell you what is the fault, but you expect a bunch of people, who have never even seen the monitor, let alone  in its broken state to diagnose your fault,

Hopeful arn't we Laughing.

Its only worth what they price of a replacement is.

Phillips Electronics in auckland fixed a bunch of our HP lcd's a few months back. Can't recall the exact cost per monitor, but it was definately cheaper than new ones. Good service I thought.
Cheers..

I assume it still isn't under warranty. If it costs more than lets say $150 to fix it, I would ditch it and go with a new monitor.

Thanks, Anthonybs.

I did just that and got a new Samsung 19" on special at DSE for $299. It also came with a three-year warranty.
