Hi guys!

I got a new HDD Western Digital model WD5000AVDS.
Installed into the machine, started up and it is not recognized, there is no new device in "My Computer".

The HDD came with no jumpers and I wonder if I need to set a jumper on it? I had C: (Master) and D: (slave), this new HDD would be the third HDD in the system. First is IDE, second (and third) are SATA.

I could not find a lot of info on the net about jumper settings and the HDD came with no instructions (but it is brand new).

Any help will be appreciated. Thank you.

Thanks to the magic of sata, you do not need jumpers!
Should just work as is

I thought that too. Until I noticed when the shift went from Sata150-300 that they would put jumpers on drives to restrict them to 150 for compatability with some BIOS's ;)

Check the SATA ports are enabled, and not in RAID mode.

Device manager will show a disk type attached, but you'll need to get into disk management to ensure it really is there and partition it before it can be used.

Sounds like you haven't actually been into Disc Management and enabled the HDD and created a partition and (if needed) allocated a fixed drive letter. You have to do this before it will be visible to Windows as a drive.
