Anyone tried following their directions and when you get to the "goto logmein123.com" part, ask them to ring back on your mobile as youve only got dialup and theyre talking to you on that line ? :)

That is exactly what I did - not more than 5 mins ago!! They have rung me probably 3 times in the last few weeks now. The first few times I told them where to go immediately. This time I strung him along for a bit. Playing dumb, asking stupid questions. When it came time to goto the website I told him I only have dialup so would have to hang up. He said he would happily call me on my mobile - but I told him I didn't have one. After that he lost interest and hung up.

Pretty funny when he asked how many errors I saw in my Event Viewer - and I said a few dozen - he said 'Oh my god Mr Jones did you say a few DOZEN?! Do you realise they are all virus infections' etc etc. I was finding it really hard not to laugh down the phone line!!

We got the jackpot one on our answer phone.

I wish the computer fix one would ring me, I'd string them along as long as possible with things like "OK, I've done that but no, it's not working"

My mum got one last night, where it was an automated message asking her to hold the line as her call is important to them. Thats as far as she got before hanging up.

I need an advice or two about this, please?

I received a call this morning from a friend who's currently in Auckland whose parents are here in Christchurch received a call yesterday from I believe the same people.

They followed the instruction
1. Go to RUN
2. Put in: inf then click enter
my friend's father said it opens a page with so many icons he has never seen before.

Then they asked him to go to RUN again and type in www.letmein.com and a 6 digit number, which he couldn't remember what.

He said when he got to the site there are several icon with ! beside them.

At that point he said to the caller that he had to go, his son normally take care of the computer stuff. And disconnect the call.

My friend suggested to his parents to leave their computer turn off for the time being. But it's not practical though.

Could someone kindly throw some advice over this way?

Many thanks in advance.

These type of scams are getting more and more sophisticated, direct proportionate to new technology coming out.

Pick a restore point a few days before the call and of course scan.
See if that helps.

My mate got a call (hes in the US) and he was fast enough to call me on skype, and fire up team viewer for me to watch. They hung up on us because we set hard core porn as the background of the virtual machine we set up before. Lol. But they got as far as opening cmd then going to desktop and realising it was a joke. We got a number for this site:

http://www.sochelpline.com/
and the remote assistance code: 312422
and the rep. name was: Debasis

Hope that helps. I have one set up and waiting in case they call.

freitasm: Yes, I have a VM here just waiting for a call... But if we get the six digit code I can report to LogMeIn and see if they can identify who the scammers are.

The one we got called by put my mate on hold while she generated the digits and told us them when she came back.
