I built a NAS with the intention of running it under FreeNas, from a usb stick.
I've decided I want to do more with the box but keep using zfs (or rather raid z) so have decided on OpenIndiana as the OS.

The MB is an Asus m4a88td-m and all 6 onboard SATA are used.  I want to install the OS in RAID 1 on 2 extra SATA II drives 160GB (3 Gb/s Seagate Barracudas) that are spare.

The 1 x PCIe 2.0 x16 and 2 x PCIe 2.0 x1 are empty.

Can anyone recommend a PCIe to SATA card that'll give good performance and RAID 1?

Or should I be putting the intended OS disks into the onboard SATA and move 2 of the 2TB WD Greens (wd20ears-00mvwb0) onto the card, thereby not need the card to do any RAID?

Well, it looks like the compatible pcie cards start from around $250 which I can't justify after having spent what I already have.
So, have decided to go low tech with 2 disks for the OS using the ide :D connector and doing the mirror in software.  The bus supports 133MBs so shouldn't be too much of a performance compromise.
