Geektastic: Can I do that if it was a Visa Debit card rather than Visa credit card?

Cant hurt to try.

The problem is that the forms that you have to fill, in take quite a while to fill in. I think it would be easier for you to get dell to sort it out. I had a problem with dells service a few months ago, and eventually I did get the issue sorted. But I guess if you are running out of time to get the chargeback from the cc company, you should at least start the process.

This may help too of you are trying to contact their NZ office http://www.consumerblogs.org.nz/tech/2009/10/ding-dong-dell.html

gzt: don't see why not, that's why you pay the fees - for the same service and protection..

I knew there must be some reason!

In 38 years of banking in the UK I never paid a card fee for what amounts to an Eftpos card and I had Visa Debit cards over 15 years ago! They were introduced by Barclays in 1987.

Thanks - interesting that Simpson Grierson are the only registered presence for Dell in NZ. I had not been aware of the fact that they did not 'exist' here at all.

I followed the advice in that article you linked to and filed an online complaint for resolution. Just for fun, I advised them that they would be liable for interest on their debt to me at 15% wef Wednesday and legal action if it remained unpaid after 7 working days. We will see if that shakes the tree at all.

Whilst I have no complaints about the product - the monitor is pretty good actually - this is the one and only time that Dell will see any of my money I am afraid.

This level of incompetence is unacceptable to me.
